These elections are historic, in that it is the first time since independence 4 decades ago that Mugabe does not appear on the voting ballot.
There was a sigh of relief when he was ousted in a coup in everything but name only, by his own party, a little while back, but there are now threats of protests and other disturbances.
The country is still heavily divided along ethnic lines with the rural Shona majority supporting the incumbent ZANU-PF party which is heavily made up of Shona's and makes hand-outs and benefits to that majority to continue ensuring their support.
Voter turn out was high yesterday at 75% but claims of vote rigging by the opposition and both parties already claiming victory is not the greatest follow up to what was a very peaceful poll so far.
Lets hope things can continue to proceed peacefully and that the county can rise from the ashes. It was an economic powerhouse and agricultural paradise before... it can be that again if only the politicians would stop meddling and get on with rebuilding the country.
Why are you surprised?
what a big prayer sir @gavvet
AMEN, and AMEN....
true talk sir. we really hope so...
Yeah. If only they would realize that true success comes from true free trade and free competition and true free and fair democracy as well! Well, Utopia has also to be earned, no doubt! Let's try to truly triumph and Trump the trident wielding Tyrant. And no trick or treating (especially in Iran please)!
Let us hope all goes well with our fellow Africans
This is the biggest problem with our politics in Africa....tribal differences.!!
I read somewhere online that Mugabe didn't want people to support his former party!!!
Absolute Africa problem, Still thinking when that will ever stop
may I repost any your post in my language?
because I like you.
This must be the best reasoning ever. Why? 'Cause I like you.
admiring someone is an inner right that requires expression, does not it? 😁
I agree! We need more of the admiration and less of the opposite!
that's right, 😁
Glad to be friends with you
:D
Let's hope the elections have been free and fair. Yes, it was a beautiful wealthy country.
I hope this time Zimbabwe will get a new president and will move in better direction after this..
Both parties are confident about victory but I think MDC alliance close to win. Yet we have to wait till August 4. But Mnangagwa is also claims about victory..

Pakistan has done with elections a week ago. It was the most important election in the history of Pakistan. Because a new face had to take the charge, finally.
Imran Khan has won with distinction and we are now looking forward for the betterment of Pakistan.
I pray the elections in Zimb also bring betterment for your country.
I do hope Zimbabwe will get back to its feet and bask in its former glory. It truly is a sleeping giant at a crucial point , things could go either way from here. It was definitely a sigh of relief when Mugabe and his demented policies was dethroned. Hopefully they can peacefully agree who has won the election and start rebuilding their country :)
I agree hunder purcent with yur post. I was in Zimbabwe last year, I crossed the north of country with my car. People are very nice, landscape fantastic and nationals park increidible. I travel in 8 country that time between Cape Town and Mombasa and Zimbabwe has been my favorite.
Hope with you that the politicians let the people quiet.
Here's the newsflash there, @gavvet... Emmerson Mnangagwa wins majority and one man has died after he was shot by Zimbabwean soldiers near a bus stop in the capital.
Protestors are accusing the ruling party of trying to rig the result of Zimbabwe’s election.

What a nasty situation is similar to what happened in the elections in Venezuela in the month of May, manipulated the results and therefore won the Government that is currently as always, I hope you can resolve things without coming to conflict Ends
There is no proof of any manipulation of the election in Zimbabwe. To all observers, the elections went off as free and fair unless otherwise shown by anyone (nothing yet). The MDC is heavily supported by foreign entities (even inside South Africa) that wish to return things to a paradise (for an elite and foreign investors). The people have spoken quite clearly and put their faith in the ZANU-PF party once again. Zimbabweans are well-educated and peace loving people - this is a nation that has fought hard for liberation and will not relinquish it as easily as their neighbours to the south have done.
To suggest it was any sort of paradise before is beyond disingenuous.
Agricultural + paradise - strange combination of words - the fact is the country has the capacity to produce food and much much more. It has never lost that potential, although it may have lost it's market. It is not a situation where it was once a desert, then an oasis.. What you refer to is a 'paradise' - which is an entirely different notion that includes the human element of pleasure, well-being, opportunity and prosperity. It was a paradise for some (fill in the sector of the people you meant here), at the same time that it's southerly neighbour was a paradise (and still is for some ...). Israeli is an oasis (to use Obama's description) and a paradise for - but who?
Zimbabwe's potential under colonialism was stunted for the benefit of the colonisers' investments into mining and agriculture. After liberation, human development has advanced in leaps and bounds, although the economy has not.
The result of all that, is the disproportionate poverty, factionalism and political upheaval we still see today. Here are the facts as I see them: There was a war of liberation - destabilising domestic and foreign forces remained in play in the nation, and are a constant force today.
