Deadly accident on a circuit of Mirabel

The motorcyclist would have lost control of his racing car

A motorcyclist died Sunday after making a fatal fall in free practice held on the ICAR circuit in Mirabel, on the North Shore of Montreal.

"We are in shock. It reminds us that an error of inattention can happen at any time, "said Moto Nation co-owner Renée Larouche. The company organized Sunday an event where free practice and motorcycle classes were offered.

Loss of control

The man in his thirties whose identity had not been revealed Sunday would have lost control of his racing car while he was on track, around 11:30.

He was rushed to the Sacré-Coeur Hospital, where his death was found, said Nicolas Arbor, spokesman for the Police Department of the City of Mirabel.

Police opened an investigation to try to elucidate the circumstances that led to this accident.

One of the owners of the ICAR circuit, Élie Arseneau, was not able to say when would reopen the track.

Experienced driver

"This is the first major accident that occurs on the circuit," he said offering his condolences to the family of the victim.

Again on Sunday, the police held a large perimeter on the ground of the track, as has been the Le Journal .

The victim of the accident was experienced and had already participated in several activities organized by Moto Nation, said Renée Larouche.

Sunday's event brought together about 80 people.

No prerequisite is required however motorcycling during practice, she noted, but said they however had to demonstrate good driving capabilities.

"We always make sure with a questionnaire [that motorcyclists have the required skills]," she says with emphasis on the training and security measures that are put forth during these events.
