Yoga and meditation are practiced by millions of people around the world on a regular basis. Yoga itself is a multi-billion dollar industry in the US alone and it's suggested that at least 8 percent of the US does yoga on a regular basis. Activities like yoga and meditation are said to provide a wide variety of potential health benefits, among them are things like increased flexibility, better strength, and improved respiration.
These activities can also alter your genes.
Researchers in the UK have recently unveiled their results from a scientific review of at least 18 different studies that sought to investigate this area of knowledge. Specifically, the biological effects of activities like yoga, meditation, Tai chi, Qi gong, and breathing exercises.
The results have been published in Frontiers In Immunology.
Researchers found that these activities can help to suppress the expression of certain genes that promote inflammation in our bodies.
They suggest that these activities might be helpful in the way of trying to go about countering any harmful genomic effects from stress. These activities might also help to protect against psychological disorders, anxiety, and depression.
Yoga and meditation aren't any sort of fad.
These activities have been practiced for thousands of years and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Though they have been around for thousands of years, the research in this area is said to be fairly new, specifically when it comes to investigating the biological effects that are associated with yoga, meditation, and more.
When it comes to meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and more, these are fairly different exercises from one another and so researchers say that on that note they were surprised to see that they all yielded similar results. They all offered the same sort of benefit in reversing stress-related changes in genes.
Stronger With Time
Previous research that has also been conducted in this area, suggests that the effects become stronger and greater the more that you practice and engage in the activity.
They suggest that engaging in the activity for 10-20 minutes, at least 2 times every day, is ideal.
Overall, it's beneficial to know that healthy habits can alter our gene expression. And researchers insist that we can dramatically alter our lives for the better, by adapting and growing healthy habits like this.

Most of us know how good is meditation for our body and mind equilibrium, most difficult part is creating a daily routine practice.
We feel the positive benefit of meditation almost instantly, why is it so hard to keep doing whatr is good for us?
Nice article... :)
When we do yoga, all our attention only enters into ourselves, we train ourselves to keep looking inside. A nice thing, we know what we're feeling, we judge our own emotions.
Thanks for share @doitvoluntarily
This is so true!! My father at the age of 63 and after 7 years of yoga is super flexible and strong. He's able to touch his toes with his fingers while standing up easily and super balanced. He said that yoga and meditation changed his life. Thanks for sharing !!! 😊
I wish I would love yoga :) but I do Transcendental Meditation and have recently started Qigong - both practices that have been studied for their their Health benefits, and also followed Joe Dispenza's work - so I truly believe we can make changes even down to the DNA level.
thanks for sharing about your experience :)
Meditation can defiantly make changed to our health and gives the body a super boost. but i don't think it can make DNA changes,
I dunnoe why yoga is so underrated form of physical activity...thanks for highlighting it's benefits...hope it spreads worldwide.
I like it.
I up vote and please follow me @yehey
I think it may be due to the fact it often looks like you're "doing very little". But even in cases where you are moving easily and slowly, there is so much more happening inside of the body and the mind as well.
Nice post. By doing meditation, you also increase consciousness and awareness.
Very detailed and thought out post. The information you talked about not only was great but spot on. Thanks for sharing. 🌞
I should at least try it once but I am actually quite relax since I am on Steemit 😎✌
I've been discovering yoga for the last 2 years with great pleasure. At first I focused a lot on the physical aspect of yoga, wanted to gain more flexibility and control over my body. I have changed my approach recently and instead of pushing myself to do more advanced poses I've been doing a lot of breathing exercise. It's the best exercise you can do and can do it anywhere!
Great post. <3 Upvoted and resteemed <3
I am going to have to step up my meditation game
Very cool. Ive been meditating/doing yoga for two years. It had done amazing things for me. I give a lot of credit to that.
Meditation is so powerful... too bad a lot of people don't know about it. Thanks for sharing this and spreading awareness :)
wow, can't believe yoga can have such a huge effect on one's life.
Thanks for this.
It takes a lot of self-control!
Great post..upvoted:))
This was a very interesting post, never tried yoga might maybe do it now.
yoga is the oatmeal to my soul
I have read a post that meditation is a positive effect on psychological health in futurism. from now on, I have to do meditation for my health...
It's amazing how many cases of spontaneous remission there have been, even in people with genetic illnesses and the one thing that they all have in common is meditation.
One of the best benefits of meditation is you can realize that you are not your mind thoughts. Benefit in reversing stress-related changes in genes implies that mind over matter is possible, but of course this is taboo in 'scientific' community. Their religion called scientism forbid them to talk about it.
I agree. I will post articles about how we do 'mind over matter' all the time, but most of the people don't notice it. Also will write about similar 'weird' stuff. If you are interested in that you can follow me.
Meditation also increases telomerase they say. Telomeres make sure that none of your DNA gets lost or messed up during cell division.
Makes sense to me! A bit like if your family tree included many top swimmers, you'd like to think the newer members would have features that support this activity; bigger lungs and hands perhaps!
a good reminder to start meditation again...and practice more yoga
interesting post
upvoted and resteemed can you please check out this post(https://steemit.com/steemit/@thepsychguide/how-ai-came-about-and-how-it-will-affect-us-part-1)
I have been practicing Yoga for more than 15 years. Physical yoga exercises combined with breathing exercises (pranayam) and meditation can bring about changes in your body and mind in a very short time.
But consistency is the key to long-term benefits like the ones @doitvoluntarily talked about in this amazing post.
All you need is a few minutes each day. You can do yoga at any time of the day, with a gap of about 2-3 hours after food consumption.
Enjoyed reading about the latest research findings, thank you!
Great article, thanks... this is also deeply inherent in some Karate or GongFu methods, Sanchin in particular with it's X shape (like a chromosome... no they did not know about chromosomes back then), is a "Body Change" exercise. They knew some things better than we do now though... writing an article now on it "Sanchin 4".
Nice subject ! Meditation is a powerfull activity. I think that in this kind of practice, there is so many misteries that can't be explain yet.
Your article was correct @doitvoluntarily. Yoga is a lot of benefits.
Aside from the fact that suppressing and altering a gene are two different things, that's a great article :)
the activities were seen to ALTER.
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/06/170615213301.htm
"These activities are leaving what we call a molecular signature in our cells, which reverses the effect that stress or anxiety would have on the body by changing how our genes are expressed."
From the article you linked. It doesn't say anywhere that the gense were altered. Changing gene expression does not change the gene.
great article . and dtailed ..i feel like i wasted years of my life without trying yoga
Thank you so much for sharing! I always know that excecise is important but always too lazy to go to gym everyday....I guess the right food plus good excecise make a great body !
Really informative.
Yoga is not just an exercise,it really has a meditative and spiritual core, with magical effects which provide remedies to physical as well as mental problems.
It was really nice
Steemit is altering my genes
명상만큼 좋은건 없다곡 생각합니다!! 좋은글입니다^^
Aww such a great article. I try to make my daily yoga practice as mindful as can be. It's such an important part of my day.
Great post, thank you so much for sharing. As a yoga teacher, I find these articles so perfect for my classes, my self-development and personal interest. Can't wait to read more :)
Getting into the daily habit can be hard to start, but i have found that it's become addictive and now i can't live without my regular dose of meditation.
