Breaking the reactions holding us back

So back to my regular Mysore ashtanga Yoga class, back to my regular teacher and what a week back!

Over the last few months I have floated from teacher to teacher with a lot of self practice in between. This has meant I have covered a lot of different styles of teaching and different styles of yoga, I have learned and lot and picked up lots of beautiful little techniques.

Being back, there is something that can be said for a regular teacher that knows your body and is willing to push you.

Here I am, trying to gently put my right leg behind my head, my regular teacher had watched me do this for a few days and then comes over to adjust.

I immediately start to breath faster, I had got used to slow progress on this pose, she adjusted me, taking me deeper into the asana, I heard a joint click (My joints often click). And before I knew it I was using the sounds as an excuse to pull myself out of the pose- The territory of the unknown! The panic! The constant search for excuses to not push ourselves!
We do it instinctively in so many parts of our lives.

But one of the magic things I love about Yoga is that it has taught me to recognise this.
Yes this time was after the event, but gradually I start to recognise these events sooner, to the point where instead of blindly and automatically reacting to emotions I can start to pause, take a breath and choose my responses.

Thank you Yoga

Namaste 🙏 xx
