It's Not About You (Or Me, Either)

in #yoga7 years ago

Yoga talks about how we put ourselves at the center of all of our actions. My goal in life and in teaching is to remove myself from the act: remove the little me that gets nervous and intimidated and overly concerned and self conscious. One time @yoga_girl answered questions online and I asked her what to do if you get nervous before teaching. It's actually not about you at all! She told me. People show up for the practice, it has nothing to do with you. That's what I remind myself whenever I get nervous. It's not about me. It never was. And that's incredibly reassuring. Because then I can show up and nothing is filtered through fear or ego. It's just the practice. To check out more of my work, head over to therootedandrising.com! Thank you all Steemit friends for your endless support and encouragement. Lucky and happy to be part of this community :)

Oh, and I love yoga!

This is the best! thank you so much for reaching out! I've followed you and look forward to connecting more. Cheers new friend!

Good thought. We do tend to think others are watching and judging us and it makes us nervous, but its not always the case, so why worry! Glad to have you back here. Steem on!!! :D

Thanks Kenny! So true. I usually have so many thoughts in my head about how other people are judging me for this or that, but it's probably not the case... and even if they are, it's not my responsibility to take on the opinions of someone else!

Fellow yoga teacher here. This is so true! Typically I get big tummy butterflies the first time I teach at a new studio, but then they start to fade with time - once my ego gets over presenting an image of itself.

Whereabouts in the world do you teach? Looking forward to following your Steemit journey!

YES exactly!!!! New studios always make me nervous all over again. I love the way you phrased that though < the ego takes time to get over presenting an image of itself. I teach in Portland, Oregon! Where are you? Followed and look forward to connecting more :)

Ahh my sister lives in Portland and recently did her YTT there. Small world! If you ever come across an Emma Snow tell her you know her brother because blockchain lol. I'm in DC : )

Altruism and agape.

I read a humble being with beautiful aspirations. Upvoted and followed 😊your post just resonated through ripples in space, reached my heart and i feel instantly connected to what mean.
