“Ahh ne'er forgits...”

Tossing his cigarette down on the floor and grinding in out with the toe of his boot, Hack finally nodded a resentful comply as he turned and headed for the door.

“Och, an' send th' cabin loon Lolz.leo doon haur tae clean up thes mess!” The captain said pointing at the cigarette butt and ash on the floor.

Hack said nothing and left without closing the door…

“Boggin auld mule!” The captain muttered to himself.

[On the Silverton…Niagara River…]

Darkness spread across the Niagara like a dark blanket as the Silverton pulled taught on its anchor chain in the center of the river.

Warrant Officer Hack met the Commanders half-way down the corridor…

"Ahh'm in charge o' th' brig deck!” He said abruptly, “Git me a forty-fit line, a gambrel an' pulley an' a sit o' shackles!”

“What?!” Galligan replied quickly, “Who put you in charge of the bridge deck?!”
“Th' Keptin did! Ask heem yerself if yoo’re aw in a tangle!” Hack replied crossly as he pushed past them and headed for sick bay.

“Sairrr, what’s happening?” Kerrislravenhill asked with concern.

“If it’s what I’m thinking it is, I need to check with the captain!” Galligan replied as he rushed down the hall to the captain’s great cabin.

Kerrisl stood motionless as she tried to make sense out of what was happening as Cockpit Officer Kevmcc came down the galley stairs…

“Sairrr!” He said with a quick salute, “We’ve dropped anchor for the night, do you want a full watch up top?”

“Aye, and I think there will be a lot to watch…”
“Sairrr?” Kevmcc replied in confusion.
“Never mind, wait here a moment.”
“Aye Sairrr.”

The minutes seemed like hours until Galligan returned, but the moment he did, Kerrisl knew from the expression on his face that this was going to be a strange night…

“Get Hack what he needs...” Galligan said soberly.
“Sairrr…what is this?” Kerrisl asked with a worried look.
“Dead man’s dunk…let’s get up-top and clear the bridge.”

Kerrisl nodded uncertainly and then turned to Kevmcc, “Bring the gear up to the bridge.”
“Aye Sairrr.”

[Sick bay…]

Hack walked into the examination room and lit up a cigarette…

As the cloud of thick smoke wafted across the room, Standing Officer Lupega fanned the air in front of his face to avoid coughing.

“Feeling happy is something I am grateful for, no matter the circumstances!” He said nervously, trying to make small talk.

Hack didn’t reply but pulled a bottle of whiskey off the shelf behind him and poured two stiff glasses…

“Here’s tae yer health Laddie!” He said finally handing one glass to Lupega.

Lupega held out his hand, then pulled it back, “No, thanks Sairrr, I only drink coffee.”
“Drink it!” Hack ordered, his eyes now getting red.

Reluctantly Lupega took hold of the glass and held it up to drink, “As my mother used to say- What's done quickly usually turns out badly!”

In one quick slug, he downed the whiskey and grimaced!

“Oooah-terrible!” He winced.

Hack downed his and then poured two more…

“Sairrr…no, I can’t!”
“Drink it!”

Swallowing hard, Lupega took the glass again and took one last deep breath before downing it.

“Uuggggh!” He grimaced, half choking it down.

Hack downed his with a long, “Aaaaahhh!”, and then set the glass down and looked him straight in the eye.

“Hoo ur ye feelin' Laddie? Relaxed?"

Lupega wiped his mouth on his sleeve and blinked his eyes, “Aye…I do feel relaxed, in fact…my eyes are a little fuzzy!”
“Haw-haw! Guid!” Hack chuckled, “Noo ye come wi' me son, we’ve got a wee procedure tae dae.”
