Why I Don't Believe in Writer's Block

Writer's block is one of the things that hinder the creativity of a writer. Being stuck in the same pattern of thoughts can be really frustrating for some of us. It's a strange feeling that may lead to procrastination. But is it something that we should really worry about?

I used to believe in writer's block until I came up with my own rhythm of writing. For me, the process of creating isn't really the hard part, it's how you commit and engage yourself in the activity at a certain time. You really got to catch the right mood and setting. It's the spontaneity that I look for. You may not get it in one sitting, but there is always a good possibility that it will make it's way into your mind sooner or later. This is why I find it really helpful to always have something to write on. I might not remember it again so keeping a journal really helps me keep track of my epiphanies.

Another thing that keeps me from reaching my full potential is the way I judge my own work. It might not be satisfying at my first attempt, but I can always reread and modify it subsequently. There is always a room for improvement. This is why we shouldn't let the thought of having a barrier like the so-called writer's block affect our writing process. It's a matter of patience. We are free to write whatever comes to our mind. I'd rather focus on the present moment and save the judging for some other time. A collection of small ideas can be transformed into something big and better.

Besides from judging our own work, we should also keep in mind that not everyone will like the outcome of our craft. Worrying about what others might think would only prevent us from obtaining our full capability. It defeats the purpose of writing, which is to express our true self. We must not forget to appreciate our own creation.

These are the things that helped me to overcome, and completely disbelieve the concept of writer's block. Although this article is based on my own opinion and experience, I still hope that this will serve as an inspiration for the people who go through the same struggle. We should not allow any obstacle distract our creativity.
