I didn't know how these shows worked until I saw this. How very interesting. Where I am from, we don't have shows like these so stuff like Judge Judy are more meme material than anything.
For these sort of shows, do both parties have to consent or can there be a court order sentencing them to do the show if the plaintiff wants to?
Both parties have to agree, yes. It's considered an arbitration agreement - a form of mediation outside their local court. There's no way we can order anyone on TV. :)
