The Great Queen (Original Poetry)

in #writing5 years ago

The Great Queen with the smell of sweet basil in her hair
She tilts, and she turns, and she swivels in her chair
She twists, and she  twirls, and she flips her hair
And good goddamn, that smile is almost too much to bear

The Great Queen, the Great Queen with the phosphorus wings
You’ll want to buy her treasures, and trinkets, and things
You’ll hear her song in every bird when it sings
And you’ll answer her call every time the phone rings

The Great Queen, she won’t mind if you’re caught stealing a glance
You’ll wait for a sign before you make an advance
Subject to her state of mind she might give you a chance
But don’t you dare overstep else she’ll look at you askance

The Great Queen be sure to treat her with the respect that’s befitting
A woman of her eminence, and the throne where she’s sitting
You’ll soon be swallowed whole by the aura she’s transmitting
She has you in her grip more than you’re comfortable admitting

The Great Queen, the Great Queen never shall she go wandering
She’ll never tie you in knots, she’ll never keep you wondering
She’ll stand beside you in times of struggle and prospering
She’ll support you in times of surrender and conquering

The Great Queen, the Great Queen light-hearted and whimsical
With such profound beauty, she almost seems mythical
She walks the line perfectly between hopeful and cynical
When she speaks your name it’s poetic and lyrical

The Great Queen, The Great Queen, so tender and gentle
But don’t put her to the test, her strength is monumental
She has no time for the misty-eyed sentimental
But every moment you spend with her is transcendental

The Great Queen, the Great Queen all she needs is one evening
She’ll have your head spinning, and she’ll keep you believing
If she ever moves on you’ll be distraught, you’ll be grieving
She’ll burn her brand into your skin when she’s leaving
