The internet is a high paced world of never ending possibilities, where if you work hard and smart at the same time then you will surely get a high paying result of your effort. The same happened to me in 2015 where i was just an unmotivated student who wanted to do something cool in his life. While i was studying multimedia in my grad years, i came across a term "Digital marketing", some relative said that digital is the future and you being in the media industry should be prepared for it. i was reluctant until 2017 where i got to know about the real potential of the internet.
I was called to work for a Hyderabad(A big city in southern India) based startup as their video editor, i worked there for some months and completed my project with them, when i was coming back to my hometown i was worried about the future, what will happen next?
While thinking about all this, i recalled that i made an id on upwork couple of years back. and i should give that a try. i gave upwork and freelancing a try and made almost $2000 in couple of months.
this post is in no way a bragging effort, its just to make you guys realise that legitimate money making is genuinely possible from the internet.
I started off by applying to almost 10-15 posts a day which eventually got me my first freelance job. i worked with that client for couple of months and made couple of thousand dollars from there.
What jobs did i work on?
I used to do video based jobs like editing, motion graphics etc.
knowing the niche in which i used to work isnt the only thing that you will get from this blog, i will tell you the tips and tricks by which i made this amount.
1.Signup : Try to sign up on as many sites as you can, the bigger names in the freelance industry are upwork, freelancer and peopleperhour so having your account created on these three platforms is a must. Although upwork has a pretty strict profile acceptance scenario, upwork is the only site out of these which i found to be the best. Try to get your profile approved as soon as you can.
once you are approved in any of you favourite sites, its time to move to the next step, follow along
Creating your profile and your portfolio : This is one of the most crucial part in this system, if you have previous experience in your field then you can start by uploading your portfolio in whatever feild you work in, whether its coding or graphic desiging or copywriting. Upload the portfolio with relevant links and reference on how was the project made, what was the client's need and how your expertise has fulfilled the need of the client.
Your profile can also include the testimonials of your previous clients in the form of text or video.
Your profile should also include a small bio of you which will indicate your involvment in the industry and the depth of your knowledge in your industry.
once your profile is created and you have updated your bio, its time to move to the next step, shall we move further now?
Sending proposals: Sending proposals is a very important part in your freelance career. There are a few things that you should take care of while sending proposals.
a) Take care of the needs of the client: if he needs flat motion graphic design and you havent done anything of that sort, make sure you are clear with the requirements.
b) Make sure that the skills you posess are the ones that match the client's need, if they match then go ahead and submit the proposals.
c) Each site requires you to send proposals based on a credit system and you get limited credits every month so make sure you spend them wisely.
Your proposals should have your introduction, the location from where you belong, the work that you do and how much passionate you are towards your work. if the client sees a sense of truth in your style of work, he will surely respond with hiring you for the role.
After the client selects you for an interview, make sure that you have a good conversation and amplify your sense of authority by showing the expertise in your field.
4.Working post hiring : Grabbing that first freelance job is the toughest task, i suggest you to try for the cheapest job in your category when you start and focus on giving your 110% so that you eventually satisfy the needs of the client and make them happy. once your client is happy, ask them to give you a rating, while asking, be polite and say it with full humbleness, once your client agrees to give you the rating, your real work starts from that very moment. The more you work hard towards maintaining the rating, the more you earn from freelancing. At the end its just about giving quality work at the right time to the right person.
