My Latest Project / Finding My Calling

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Hey, Steemians. How are you all today?

I've had plenty of ups and downs since I started writing here, but one thing that has remained constant is the kindness and the support I receive every time I interact with others on Steemit.

I love the environment here; I love the different people, their genuine comments, and how much I've learned about the blogging world since I started using this platform.

I've always been a writer, but not a blogger so much until recently. Even though I've been writing on Steemit, my posts here aren't what I would consider professional as far as appearances go. I never use headers, sub headers, italics, bold letters, etc. It just looks like someone logs on and types - which is generally what I do here. I use Steemit as my diary.

I've mentioned recently that I did some writing on Upwork over the last few months since my family and I needed extra income. My primary work on Upwork consisted of me ghostwriting for various professional blogs of different niches and I learned a lot about what it takes to be a professional blogger.

With all that being said, I quickly caught on that the money those people were making for my writing and the money I was getting paid for doing it were on two completely different levels. Sure, I might make $10 for every 1,000 words, but the people who run those blogs will make an endless amount of money for a lifetime.

Naturally I decided I'm going to start my own blog... separate from my blog here. I'm going to start blogging as a full time job. I would like to use Steemit for my personal blog and my other website for my work - a girl still has to vent from time to time, so I won't be going anywhere.

I want to cover various subjects as I have many interests and don't want to appeal to one group of people. I already have my name figured out, but I want to share the general subjects with you all here in hopes that you'll give me feedback on what types of things you would personally enjoy reading.

So basically I have all the topics figured out, but I want to run kind of a poll to figure out which subtopics the general public might be interested in.

These are the areas I'm interested in writing about:

Clearly my main focus will probably be the whole "mom on a budget" ordeal. This could cover numerous areas such as a month's worth of dinner ideas for a mom who's struggling to make ends meet, or off-brand diapers versus Pampers or Huggies.

I also plan to cover babies and toddlers in general as far as dealing with separation anxiety, potty training, baby foods to avoid, car seat safety, and so on.

Pregnancy and postpartum health are other areas; things like pregnancy milestones, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, and postpartum depression are big things I would cover.

Aside from parenthood, I want to veer off a little and talk about life lessons in general - things like what I've learned from love and relationships, life through the eyes of an empath, handling functioning depression, putting your foot down after being walked all over for too long, and so on.

I also want to blog about DIY crafts, but of course crafts that don't cost an arm and a leg because again, "mom on a budget" here.

I want to have a writing section where I share poems and short stories I've written and possibly even mentor others who are looking for help with starting a blog or writing a book.

I'll have a jewelry section where I list my items for sale and possibly offer tutorials on making jewelry.

I want to discuss life goals and daydreams and how to achieve them.

And I really want to burn the importance of self help and self love into the brains of people all over the world.

Bullying is something else I want to address.

I know it sounds like I have a pretty good grasp on what I want to write, and I do - but what specific headlines do you guys think people would be interested in within those areas?

For example, are there specific mental disorders I should cover or should I talk about mental health in general?

It's important to me that my blog is relatable. Even if I haven't experienced every subject I cover, I will do extensive research before I post anything.

It will take hours of writing and dedication to get this started, but my heart is set on it.

Thank you so very much if you've read this far and I hope to hear back from everyone!

Sounds like you do have a good outline of what you want to write about. I might suggest an article or more on the kind of music you listen to. I always have my playlist playing straight into my brain via headphones, and maybe you like music too.

I was on the other end, buying articles from freelance writers for several years. My general guideline was to ask for practical factual articles but which also related the author's personal experiences with the topic with their thoughts and feelings. The personal touch makes it more interesting and relatable. I think you pretty much do this already, so I'm about out of thoughts here! Have a nice day!

Thank you so much for your input!

Actually it's funny you mentioned music because I was thinking of dedicating a section of my website specifically to music because I love so many genres. I thought of doing 1-2 album or music video reviews per week and accepting recommendations for artists to review in the comments or through email.

I have some albums that I'm passionate about and would love to share with others and expand their taste.

You got me excited and I think I'm going to start writing about music as soon as I post this comment!

I love to add a personal touch to the blogs I write for. Unfortunately I had to pretend to be someone else most of the time, but I always had lots of fun when a client allowed me to write from my perspective.

Thank you as always for the insight! 😁

You're welcome, and I look forward to seeing what you write about music!
