My Brother's Keeper Chapter 1 Part III
The apartment was made with the dining and living room adjacent. It was a small two bedroom, complete with a kitchen and small bath. Thin navy blue carpet covered the floor. It was also contaminated with multiple stains. The walls were bare, with the exception of a poster of Scarface’s Tony Montana holding a blazing M16 with the words, Say hello to my little friend. A black leather sectional occupied the living room along with matching lamps, coffee, and end tables. Across from the sectional was a 40 inch flat screen mounted to the wall. It was decent looking to say the least, even though it was a crack house.
One of Big Jew’s flunkies by the name of Blacc, sat with him at a glass dining table in the dining room. Blacc got his name because his skin was as black as midnight oil. He and Big Jew had been in the middle of a domino game before the incident with K.C and Joe Willie.
Blacc slammed a domino and yelled, “twenty-five.” The ivory domino made a loud clank sound when it hit the glass. Slamming the domino on the glass irritated Big Jew primarily because he was losing. “Damn mothafucka! Don’t break my gotdamn table, nigga!” Big Jew yelled.
Blacc knew Big Jew hated to lose and was enjoying having the upper hand in the game.
“Man, my fault, big homie.”
“Just don’t do it again. You break my table, I’ma break yo ass.”
A deck of blue Bicycle playing cards were on the dining table. Big Jew reached for the deck and slid a card off from the top. He then used it to scoop a small amount of cocaine from the small mound in front of him. He held it up to his nose and made the cocaine disappeared into his nostril. He scooped up more cocaine with the playing card and dumped it on the table in front of Blacc. Blacc looked up from his domino hand and smiled. He then took a card and used it to make lines of coke on the table. After that he rolled up a twenty dollar bill and used it snort the cocaine, making each line disappear. He wiped the white residue from his nose and wiggled it a few times. He saw that Boone was staring at him. “What’chu lookin’ at?” Blacc asked. Boone shook his head. Blacc laughed to himself; then continued counting the dots on the dominos.
“He lookin at you, junky mothafucka. Man, hurry up and pass them rocks over here and stop scaring the young folks,” said Big Jew before turning his attention to Boone. “Hey umm, ain’t you Tiffany’s little brother?” Big Jew took another ace of coke and waited on Boone to answer. He was sniffing to prevent his nose from running. Alex figured it was from the coke, because he noticed Blacc was doing the same. “Well, ain’t you gon say somethin’?” Big Jew asked, staring at Boone. Boone just stood there with a blank look. Alex nudged his arm, so he’d speak up and say something.
“Yeah that’s right. Tiffany’s yo sister, ain’t that right Boone?” Alex asked.
Boone snapped back into reality and quickly responded. “Tiffany? Yeah, yeah that’s my sister.” He said while nodding his head. Big Jew stared at Boone for a few seconds. Then as usual, he began laughing. His entire body wobbled and shook like gelatin. Big Jew reached for the blunt Blacc had finished rolling and took a hit. He blew the smoke out and let out a few coughs. He then handed Boone a piece of paper with his number written on it.
“Tell that fine ass sister of yours to give me a call, ya dig?” Boone took the piece of paper and stuck it inside his pocket. “Now don’t let me down, okay lil man? She give me a call, next time I see you, I’ll have a lil somethin’ for you.”
“Alright,” Boone replied.
Big Jew was twenty-seven years old and had a thing for young under aged girls. Tiffany was only sixteen. She was a very pretty girl, half white and half black. Her skin was olive and without blemish, and her hair was long and dark. Everyone in the neighborhood had a thing for Tiffany, young and old. She even hand a couple of dikes in the hood trying to shoot game at her.
Big Jew hit the blunt again and started coughing. He covered his mouth with his fist and passed the blunt back to Blacc. “Tina got the shit y’all smoke in the back. Y’all pockets too petty for this here, this OG Kush. This for the the big boys. But y’all wouldn’t know about that now would ya?
“How much is that?” Boone asked.
“Y’all aint gotta enough, now get.” He pointed to the hall that lead to the bedroom, then added. “Go on back there and holler at her. Tell her I said hook you up, and don’t let K.C. catch you eyeballing his bitch either. That fool’ll go nuts.” Then he started laughing again. Alex knew he was only kidding but he wasn’t sure if Boone knew if he was joking or not.
Tina was lying across her bed practically nude, dressed only in a lavender panties and a bra. When the boys made their way to her bedroom, they found her chatting on the phone while filing her finger nails. Her head was down and cocked to one side with a cell phone in between her head and shoulder. She was too caught up in her conversation and nail filing and hadn’t notice the two boys standing at her door. Despite Big Jew’s warning about eye-balling Tina, Alex couldn’t help but to admire her beauty. Her skin was like caramel. She had a large tattoo of a tiger climbing up her thick thigh. She had several other tattoos in various places, but that one stuck out the most. It was sexy. Alex glanced at Boone, who had taking Big Jew’s warning seriously. But he couldn’t resist the temptation to look also.
The toilet flushed inside the bathroom. Moments later, the door opened and K.C. walked out. He bumped into Alex and looked him up and down, “stay out of my way and give me my respect.” The meaning of the rude act was well understood. Alex brushed it off and stood in the doorway of Tina’s bedroom. K.C. pulled off his wife beater and laid on the bed beside Tina. He then covered his face with his shirt.
Alex held out the cash to get Tina’s attention. She looked up and grabbed the money and quickly counted the cash noticing that money was short. She frowned at Alex. “Where’s the rest?” Alex dug into his pocket and came out with the loose change and held it out to her. When she noticed that he was offering her change, she waved him off telling him to put the change away.
Big Jew and Blacc played dominos and continued smoking weed at the dining table. Big Jew slammed down his last domino yelling, “Domino mothafucka!” Their game was interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Man aint that bout a bitch,” Blacc said, disappointed he had lost the game. He counted the dots on the dominos one by one like a first grader before he passed them to Big Jew. Then there was a second knock.
“Man, get the door,” said Big Jew. Blacc slid the rest of the dominoes across the table; he then stood up to answer the door. When he looked through the peephole, no one was there. “Who is it?” Big Jew asked.
“I don’t see nobody,” answered Blacc, looking back at Big Jew.
“You don’t see nobody?”
A third knock came. Blacc looked through the peephole again, and at that moment something did not look right. His eye widened from the sight of the masked man standing at the door. “Fuck,” yelled Blacc. That was his last word, before hearing the blast of the shotgun. A slug from a 12 Gauge ripped through the door and hit him in his stomach. Blacc stumbled backwards trying to stay on his feet but was unsuccessful and fell onto his back. The gunman fired a second shot at the door knob and then quickly cocked his weapon to shoot a third. With the door now badly disabled, he raised his foot and kicked the door as hard as he could and the door flew open.
The sight of Blacc’s body caused Big Jew to freeze up in a state of total shock. He was caught totally off guard and had responded too late. He tried to reach for his .357 on the dining table, but the masked gunman was a step ahead. He fired a shot and hit Big Jew’s arm; severing the limb at the elbow. Only a piece of flesh kept the limb attached. He didn’t have time to scream before another slug ripped through his chest. Big Jew fell backwards in his chair onto the floor. He bled to death seconds later.
One by one the other three men entered Big Jew’s apartment. There were four in all, each armed with 12 Gauge shotguns. One of the gunmen noticed Blacc was still breathing. He lowered his shotgun; placing the end of the barrel underneath Blacc’s chin. Then he pulled the trigger. Blacc’s head burst. His brain and skull splattered on the floor like a water balloon smashing against a wall. There was nothing was left above the neck; nothing at all.
Tina reached on the side of the bed, and dipped her hand inside a large zip lock bag, filled with marijuana. She took out a small amount and placed it onto a digital scale. Then suddenly her nerves were shaken by the sound of gunshots coming from inside the apartment. “What the fuck is that?” She asked and looked at K.C. Fear gripped her even more when she saw the look of concern in K.C.’s eyes. Her heart rate increased causing her heart to pound inside her chest. “What is it baby?” She asked afraid. K.C. didn’t answer, there was no need to. At least not for now, now was the time to convert thought into action. Their lives depended on it. K.C. stood up and reached underneath the mattress. He felt around until his hand found what it was looking for. He grabbed the Tec-9, from underneath the mattress and ran over by the bedroom door.
Alex and Boone turned to one another wondering what to do next. Neither of them had ever been in a situation like this before. Things were happening so fast and to Alex it didn’t seem real. He tried to remain calm. He had to think level headedly. Panicking would get him nowhere. He looked at Boone. Boone looked up at him. He could see the fear in Boone’s eyes.
“What’s going on Al?” Boone asked.
“I don’t know B, we cool though.” There wasn’t much confidence in his last statement. He could only hope for now.
Two of the masked men ransacked the living room, searching for Big Jew the Boss’s safe. While the other two gunmen posted up by the door, acting as look outs. Time was winding down and they needed to act fast. The police were going to be there shortly. The leader of the masked robbers yelled for someone to check the back. That’s when one of the men in the living room hurried to the hallway.
Meanwhile, K.C. had the Tec 9 in his hand and cocked one into the chamber. He stood by the door and cracked it open enough to peek down the hallway. The music from Big Jew’s stereo still blasted loudly through the apartment.
“Baby…” Tina began to say before K.C. shushed her to keep quiet. He flicked off the light in an effort to conceal himself and at that moment he and one of the gunmen in the front room made eye contact. The gunman raised his shotgun.
“Shit!” K.C. said, before slamming the door. Suddenly a loud boom sounded and buck shots smashed through the door .
Seven had a firm grip around the shotgun. He entered the hallway and noticed something suspicious. A pair of eyes staring back at him from inside the bedroom. The light inside the bedroom went out and the door slammed shut. Someone else was inside the apartment, which only meant one thing, witnesses. He raised his shotgun and fired a spray of double R pellets into the bedroom door.
Tina was screaming at the top of her lungs and was balled up with her knees to her chin on top of the bed. She knew that death was just on the other side of the bedroom door, but what could she do?
At the same time, Alex couldn’t believe what was happening. What had he and Boone gotten into? His thoughts raced furiously as he tried to figure a way out of this mess. He grabbed Boone’s arm tightly and backed up into a corner. His breathing intensified and beads of sweat moistened his forehead. He hoped that K.C. had enough rounds to fend off their attacker, who\ever they were. Then he reminded himself that K.C was a bad motherfucker with a proven track record on the street. Maybe that fool Joe Willie came back acting stupid with a gun. K.C. could definitely defend them against a crack head. Alex looked at Boone and saw watery eyes and tears running down Boone’s face. He was about to tell Boone that they were going to be alright again, but more buck shots smashed through the door before he said a word.
“Yo what the fuck was that?” asked Slug from the living room. He was making his way to the hallway where Seven was located with the smoking shotgun. K.C. heard Slug’s voice. He was now aware of the presence of a second gunman inside the apartment. The odds were against him, but he wasn’t going out without a fight. He raised the Tec-9 and returned fire, tearing more holes through the door with his weapon. Seven felt the 9mm rounds whiz past his head. He fell to the floor, taking cover.
The bullets from K.C.’s gun had bought them more time and made the intruders aware that he was strapped as well. “Climb out the window!” K.C. yelled to Tina. She was now balled up on the floor beneath the window crying and trembling with fear, but K.C. remained calm. “Tina, climb out the window.” He repeated. She slowly rose from her position on the floor and unlocked the window. She then grabbed the handles and tried to raise it. But after raising only six inches, it wouldn’t budge any further. She pulled up again, tugging with all her might, but nothing. It still wouldn’t budge.
“I can’t, it’s stuck!” She cried.
“Fuck!” K.C. yelled.
At that moment the thought came to mind that tonight might be his last. Death was something he wasn’t afraid of. He would face it head on. He fired several warning shots into the wall, so that the bullets would go through the wall and enter the hallway where the intruders were located. He hoped that luck was on his side and one of them would get hit. He opened the closet and signaled with his hand for Alex and Boone to get in. Boone went inside the closet. But before Alex could get inside, another shotgun blast burst through the wall causing him to instinctively dive on the floor. Dust from broken sheetrock filled the room. Alex saw an opening underneath the bed and crawled under.
K.C.’s voice could be heard yelling from the other side of the door. Tina’s screams intensified, as more shots were fired. K.C. and the intruders were in a heated exchange of bullets. Then all of a sudden K.C.’s body fell on the floor with his eyes staring back at Alex. There was a hole in the right side of his forehead about the size of a quarter. K.C. had put up a good fight but he was no more.
The bedroom door slowly opened and one of the gunmen entered the room cautiously. Tina continued screaming hysterically. From underneath the bed Alex watched black boots walk over to Tina. Another shot was fired silencing her screams.
“Hurry up, find that shit!” Slug ordered.
“I already know where it is,” said Seven. From underneath the bed, Alex watched Seven’s boots walk over to the bedroom closet where Boone was hiding. Seven opened the closet. “Well, what do we have here? Get up.” He ordered.
“Please don’t kill me. I….I..I promise I won’t say nothing,” begged Boone as he stared down the barrel of Seven’s shotgun.
“Don’t worry I don’t kill kids,” said Seven fallaciously. “Now get up off the floor like I said,” he continued. Boone slowly rose from his position with his hand’s raised. “Move,” he ordered. He walked Boone into the hall of the apartment where his other three accomplices; Slug, Rocco, and Monster were waiting. They each wore ski-mask and dark cloths.
“I promise I won’t say nothing. I promise man,” continued a frightened Boone. His voice began to crack, and his eyes became watery.
“Who the fuck is this?” asked Slug.
“I don’t know. I found him in the closet by the safe.”
“Please don’t kill me.”
“I told you. I don’t kill kids. Now get the fuck out of here,” said Seven.
Boone turned away from Seven and was about to hightail it, but before he could Rocco aimed the 44 Bulldog to the back of his head and squeezed the trigger. He never notice Seven giving Rocco the signal to execute him.
Really nice. I'm guessing this is an exert from a book?
Yes it is @harrynewman ! Sorry it took me so long to get back at you but I am just now learning this platform and having @christoryan and @koh teach me.. But yes, this is an exert from a book I have already written. I met the 2 people mentioned above about a month ago and they urged me to publish it on Steemit. Thanks for the engagement!!
