Problem Appeared
Daily writing is a very challenging task for me. At present I don't afraid of writing, but finding topic is a little bit difficult for me. Fortunately these days I figured out one method to write everyday, the Feynman technique.
Using Feynman technique to write essays is not easy, firstly we need to absorb enough knowledge and have deep understanding of the contents that we want to write. I always want writing to boost my academic understanding and technological improvements. But since joining 007 community, I found that I was writing for writing all the time. I need to change this situation.
What is Feynman technique
Feynman technique comes from the world-class physicist Richard Feynman who is also a Nobel prize winner. This technique is the key of his great achievements, even though it is reported that Mr Feynman's IQ is only around 120. Therefore this technique is very valuable to majority people who is not a genius like us, it's a great method to understand complicated things. The instructions of Feynman technique is quite simple, but it's not easy to implement.
So now the simple steps of Feynman technique is below:
Write the name of the concept at the top of a blank piece of paper, an A4 paper is appropriate.
Write down an explanation of the concept on the page. Try your best to use plain and simple English, not the professional words and phrases. Pretend you are teaching it to someone else who have no idea about the concept(e.g a new student). This should highlight what you understand, but more importantly pinpoint what you don't quite know.
Review what you have pinpointed you don't know. Go back to the source material, re-read, and re-learn it. Repeat Step 2.
If you are using overly wordy or confusing language (or simply paraphrasing the source material) try again so you filter the content. Simplify your language, and where possible use simple analogy.
Because the process of adopting Feynman technique is writing, I think it would be a great method to write essays.
Daily writing is certainly a challenge for many people. Often, I find that having a random word as a prompt can be quite helpful. You simply pick or find a word, write it at the top of your page, and then set yourself a little timer. You might start with only a one minute timer. The important part is the keep writing until the timer stops. Eventually, you'll work up to longer periods of time writing and it will become a part of your daily routine.
