Social media age: A blessing for introvertedness plus everyone is now social with this reality

in #writing7 years ago

No doubt, we live in an extroverted world and the society has placed an expectation on who gets the reward of favour by how cheerful and outgoing the person is. In my part of the world, If you are anything short of outgoing at all times, you are considered proud, uncheerful, uninteresting and perhaps a killjoy. By extension, the reality of the world is if you are not outgoing or you made no attempt to break out of your solitude space, there is only so much you can achieve in the physical world.

The reality is different now, everyone is social. The social media age and the internet has somewhat bridged the gap of difference. It has also levelled the playing ground of who gets the freebies and chunks of goodies in the physical world. Unlike before when the extroverts gets it all, could hold their own and get noticed quickly. They could sell things easily as salespeople without breaking a sweat and most times, they got the hottest girls.

More so, It is worth saying equally that social media flourished introvertedness. The tides of the world changed from the scramble to build networks and relationships offline to a more strategic and comfortable network building online. Even many companies and businesses place more priority on their online presence than elsewhere as their activities on the internet forms a greater part of the corporate image.

With the internet, introverts found solace especially with social media as the main tool of use. I’ve read many stories of people who say “Facebook is the best thing that has ever happened to them as it allows them to socialize without having to talk with anyone”. Really, I’m not surprised. That’s why you see many online extroverts who dazzle you with their offline introvertedness in the event of an offline meet-up or conference and you will be like “is this not the guy that’s always everywhere on steemit?”

Also, don’t get it twisted many are extroverted online and offline. But those ones are the exception, they blended in well with the social media age and thus, derive their energy from relating with people well both offline and online.

These lots (extroverts) see social media as a tool to build more solid relationship offline. An extrovert treats social media as “Hey guys, can we meet up at a bar close by or something”. To them it’s just a means to an end, unlike the introverts who sees it as an end itself. or what else could offer a way of building seamless relationships and followership through the click of a mouse than social media plus It also proffers an escape route when conversation dies off by just logging off instead of the bizarre situation of thinking about how to exit in a one-on-one encounter.

Overall, social media has been a panacea and has come to the aid of the introverts as a blessing for opportunities lurking in the highly extroverted physical world. It has provided introverts avenue to be the master of their own life and they can take up jobs that suits their personality, market themselves in the best way possible without the dictates of societal expectations and also build few close inner circle as they deem wish.
