Author Interview with Kat Turner

in #writing4 years ago (edited)

I’ve known Kat Turner for years, when we started swapping stories as critique partners. Her writing is thoughtful, fun, and delivers sizzling romance with high-stakes, page-turning plots.

I’m excited to bring this interview to Hive!

Interview with author Kat Turner

Katrina Ariel: What’s one of your favorite things about your current WIP?

Kat Turner: I’m now drafting Book 4 of my Coven Daughters series, so I’m really delving deep into the world building and universe as well as building links to a spinoff series that I hope to have out next year. It’s been so much fun expanding the magic system. I’ve really enjoyed strengthening ties that unite the various characters and storylines, of course with plenty of steamy romance in the mix, too!

Tell us about a book you’ve published. What do you love about it? Where can we find it?

In Hex, Love, and Rock & Roll, a novice witch accidentally hexes a rock star and falls for him while battling the deadly hex. I love this story because of how it inverts and plays with the wish fulfilment trope while offering up a fresh twist on the rock star romance, and also for the sexiness, magic, and music!

I love that cover! It's so hot! 🔥🔥🔥 So, what’s next in your writing world?

I’m about to start editing a contemporary romance with my agent before going on sub. Book 2 of my Coven Daughters series releases from City Owl Press in August of 2021, with more books in that universe forthcoming.

Do you have a writing ritual or something that helps you focus?

Just sheer force of will! Like many of us, I balance a day job and motherhood in addition to the author life, so I take the time to write when I can find it.

What inspires you to keep writing?

Good reviews, the joy of having a book already out in the world, and all of the unexpected, fun surprises that come with working in a big paranormal universe.

Kat Turner, author and all-around awesome human.

Do you have any advice for writers who haven’t published yet?

Keep going, never stop improving and learning. Self-care is vital. Keep hope alive and lean on others for support when you need to.

What brings you comfort in an uncertain world?

Exercise, nature, and escape into fictional worlds. Supporting other people and putting loving kindness into the world.

I love those answers! Every time I look at your Twitter feed, I see you supporting others, and I know you’ve done that for me! Thanks for the great interview, Kat!

P.S. Did you get your copy of Shelta's Songbook yet?

Sort:

Good interview-good questions AND good answers. I like that you have a 'go to' to help you through the tough times...

I have a couple of people locally that keep me more or less propped up. I was researching a 'Pandemic' book when an actual pandemic hit-I've put that on the shelf for now. Way too much current competition.

You go. I think you are on the rails and I really look forward to your next book and the one after that...

So glad you enjoyed the interview, Tom! Thanks for reading.

I hear you, I don't think I could read anything pandemic-related at this point, either. I'm usually looking for escape from reality in fiction. 🤣

Kat and I both appreciate your encouragement. Keep being awesome! 💖
