Freelancing & Live Streaming. - Are there any similarities?

Are there any similarities?

  • Do they have anything in common?

At first glance, I'd say no. Nothing at all. They are two different things.. - But, if I take a closer look, I'd actually say this:

Yes. - There's a few things that somehow seems to be "connected".

  • An orange and an apple are not the same, but they are similar to each other..
Both are round, not the same color, even though apples can be of multiple colors.. But they are tasty & they are fruits.

So, even though freelancers or live streamers might be round.. I guess they're not that tasty.. No matter the color of the skin.

Oh well, to the point then..

I don't know about you, but I am a freelancer and the way I work, is by myself. - I take orders from my clients and I usually end up working for multiple "bosses" each month.

  • And if you think about it..
As a streamer who plays games for his audience.. You could say that your viewers are ultimately different types of "bosses".

Most streamers are trying to establish themselves and they get (or are trying to get) donations from their audience. Like a paycheck.

  • Do something insane, cool and/or crazy, and you'll often end up with some sort of donation from your audience. - Just like you'd get paid if you delivered high quality work to your clients.

If you as a streamer play a game that most people doesn't appreciate.. Or if you are terrible at the games you're playing.. - Then you'll usually end up with nothing at all in terms of donations. - If you're good at what you're doing, even though you suck at the games, then you'll still be able to "fill your pockets" with some "moolah"..

Just like you'd be able to get paid by a client, if you delivered half-assed quality.. But still goes that extra mile to satisfy them in the end.

As a streamer, it's important to have a schedule. (If you're trying to establish yourself that is.)

As a freelancer, it's often not that important when you work, as long as you deliver whatever you and your clients agreed on, within your delivery time. - But if you're a streamer, people will start asking questions as soon as you're "late".

What these two things have most in common is, that you should never, ever promise things you won't be able to deliver.

  • As a freelancer, it's devastating to promise your clients things you can't deliver. - That will ruin your business in a blink of an eye.

  • As a streamer, you can't promise your audience to play a certain game for instance, if you don't play it when you promised too. - You'll end up losing viewers by doing this, as it gives them hope of certain things they won't get at the end.

I usually don't do things like this...

  • But I guess it's pretty easy to compare things by taking a "deeper look" so to speak. Most things have something in common, one way or another.. - Do you agree?

The most important thing to remember.. No matter if you're a freelancer, a streamer or anything else for that matter, is to...

  • That way, you'll end up with good results in the end.

Cheers!

Being a blogger, youtuber, streamer might sound as super cool and easy. As if it's not work at all. But it is! Try explaining those things to old people :D
But the bottomline is that it's ENTERTAINMENT for the most part and actors, musicians, artist have been around for thousands of years. There's nothing mysterious about it.

Haha yeah, I couldn't agree with you more. My mom still doesn't understand what I'm doing as a freelancer and I've tried to explain it for the past 7 years or so.. :D

Nice, but sometimes I promise what I cannot do and afterwards I get someone to do the job for me. We both share the money. This is freelancing you know. I belong to a freelancing group on whatsapp and facebook where we help each other with task that are difficult. There is always a solution to every task, you just have to find the right person for the job.
