Isn't it interesting how we tend to make "work that earns us money" into something SERIOUS by default?
In the "real world" of 9-5 jobs, that's how it is. Hard work is serious. But as I get older, I realize how many people make a living, or at least a life, out of the less serious things...
The rock and roll musician isn't so serious.
The comedian isn't so serious.
The janitor - why does he or she have to be serious?
This idea that "real work" must be combined with a stiff, formal tone... that idea is the old way! I think we're learning how to be fun and still meaningful, as a society.
Amen.
Yeah, this can be a sticky one. Sometimes I feel rather silly, enjoying the freedom to earn my living on this platform, writing when and where i choose - yet still being so fucking serious about it. Though, like anything - practice, practice, practice. Little by little, every new story presents new opportunities to loosen up in different ways, give less fucks, and have fun in the process.
Blah blah blah. 👽👹😎
