Open source is also free!(sometimes) I think now more than before we need code that can be audited and ensured it is not compromising our private information. Microsoft has become a company that has abstracted completely what its OS does with your information and acts contrary to what you may want it to do. Not to mention the NSA routinely raids your details from all the tech companies that aren't concerned about the principles of privacy.
I'm not sure when the average consumer will go out of their way to use open source software until they are aware and educated about invasive technology. So we have a responsibility to be as informative as possible so users are not silently syphoned of their life
