Men and the Circus Elephant

in #writing7 years ago

In a traveling circus, an elephant baby is born. Once it can stand on its own legs, it is tied up. With the rope on the hind leg, it has only a limited freedom of movement and can only run around the peg in a certain radius. This circle defines its world, any attempt to leave it is stopped by the pain the rope causes on the leg. The little elephant learns that he is well within the circle, and he settles with it.

Over the years it gets bigger and stronger, strong enough to pull the stake out of the ground without any problem. But since he has learned that this is associated with pain, he does not even try it anymore. The "world out there" is unattainable for him.

The story of men is also similar to the elephant when he is little his elders tell him you cant do this you cant do that and when he became young and powerful with all his senses he makes his thinking associated with the small things and doesn't think of bigger things.

Nice post. I agree with you. It is not easy to come out from the mindset. Once the mind is set he understand his limitation.
