Before you quit that job... (Part I)

in #writing7 years ago

This is based on a true life experience.

Last year, I made a wrong move twice with regards to switching jobs.

My first place of work had a disturbing challenge of late payment of salary(ies) . The Management would comfortably owe staff for more than two months and wound up paying whenever they felt like. Eventually, I got tired and called it quits...just like that.

Now, looking back at my actions, I believe the right thing to do would have been to hold on, maybe just treat the job anyhow (go late, teach less, stay back on some days) but not leave the place totally. The best move would have been to secure a new job first before quitting

Lets continue.

When I left there, I had a bigger problem. There was no hope of incoming cash at all. During my employee days, we had hope of incoming cash though we did not know when it would get to us. But now, without any job, there was nothing to hope for.

Take note, the most important thing here is the hope not necessarily the money. Brethren, lemme just say this, from the innermost part of my heart, that hope can keep one alive.

In addition to the hope, having something that keeps you busy is a good thing (like a job, a business, your career, school, church, etc). Something that makes you wake up early, dress well and brings in cash in the long run(no matter how small).

With no job, no lectures to attend (as I had finished school and project), boredom became my best friend. And sleep turned my side chick. 😔. I drew closer to my darling laptop, spent more time with her doing nothing but movies.

At first, it was the best feeling in the world. I could wake up anytime I want, do anything I like and no one would be bossing me around. But eventually, I got tired of the movies. No. It started with lack of cash. How would you sleep when you know you're broke and you know there's nothing that is coming in at all?

(to be continued)

Curious to hear what happened to the side chick in mistake#2

Many thanks to you for stopping by @meditateonthat.

The second part would hit the platform later today.

I know exactly how you feel, I quit my job a while ago and haven't been doing anything for 6 months now. In the beginning the freedom feels so liberating but at one point it catches up on you. Curious to read your second part ✨Hi @fada.emma

You're absolutely right.

The second part is still in the oven...

Thanks for stopping by @vladana

With time, I hope you can look back at quitting your job and pat yourself in the back for doing the right thing. No one should have to live and work under such conditions. Being idle is not the better choice but now that you are out, you have choices and you have time to explore them. Write part 2 but I shall be waiting for you in part 3 when you realize that leaving was not a mistake.

Thanks for sharing an inspiring story.

When a King 👑 drops by a peasant's hut to check their welfare, that day becomes Christmas Day for the peasant.

For stopping by my blog, it's a Christmas Day for me.

Beyond stopping by, thy feedback is very much appreciated. Part 2 would be out soon.

Thanks again

Flattery is definitely your strong quality :)

Thanks for replying.

😂 😁

Man, I'm simply being honest with you.

I can totally relate. I spent many years as an executive sales guy for software companies. They paid regularly enough but had the habit of taking accounts away and setting unattainable goals. I spent my life on a plane and started missing key milestones of my kids lives.

I remember the advice of a respected colleague. He said simply, "do what it takes to keep the pay coming in." What he meant was to swallow a bit of pride, keep doing the job so there was the prospect of short term money, and look for a new place while doing this.

Every little thing you build on your own comes a little harder, with a little more delay on the payout but the upside is it is yours.

Can't wait for the to be continued.

@zekepickleman I can't read your comment without wondering if you didn't regret not quitting that software sales job...

I figured if it was easy and fun, they would not pay me the big bucks to do it.....so it was supposed to be a life-sucking pain in the ass. That being the case, I learned quite a bit about business and now run my own IT consulting company in a small town where life is easy. I managed to keep the pay coming in while I started my own thing and it all works out in the end for people driving their own ship!

Working for people can be so tough. It is never perfect. If the pay is good, the working conditions would be poor. If the conditions are okay, your team players would be weird. There seem to always be a defect.

I have mapped out plans to be my own Boss. So help me God.

Many thankssssssss to you @zekepickleman, my megastar jujitsu champion.. I'm so glad you stopped by my blog. I'm grateful for the comment too. God bless you abundantly.
