I’ve never posted a story like this , but as my grandfather once said, try everything twice 👌🏽...so here it is.
I had an interesting, to say the least, human interaction today...perspective?
I had to pick up a worker today to do some manual labor at a construction site. He gets in my car and I quickly find out that his English is pretty poor, so I figured this would be a perfect time to practice my Spanish (ya gueey! 🇲🇽).
So I start blabbing away with standard questions, where are you from? Etc.
I guess I was doing pretty well, because the conversation meanders its way to Donald Trump and this wall he wants to build.
NOW BEFORE YOU DISREGARD THIS STORY AS POLITICAL BIAS IN ANY NATURE.....STOP!!!
THIS IS SIMPLY A STORY ABOUT A MAN ON HIS JOURNEY OF LIFE!! YES... THE ONE WE ALL WALK AND NAVIGATE THROUGH. (SOME MORE AWKWARDLY THAN OTHERS LOL)
He tells me he's from Mexico, just outside of Mexico City, and he has two kids. He said he left Mexico because he wanted his kids to have a better opportunity to learn and grow up in an environment which allows for certain liberties unavailable in Mexico. I told him, (not so comfortably eloquent lol) that is understandable. He continues, and tells me that he believes Trump is using fear and hate to portray a nation of people.
At this point I'm thinking, I'm not really sure I want want to get into this discussion, as I like to stay away from the political blah, but the man has a point. Not to mention this conversation is odd enough in English, but it's going down in Spanish 🤔 (ya gueey🇲🇽).
He says, America is the greatest country in the world, and I don't want to be anywhere else.
Then he looks at me...Andres,(yea! My Spanish name 🤘🏽) did you know I have my masters degree in biology and I worked at research and development laboratory for 6 years? .........😵
So now I'm speechless!!
Then it hits me!!
This man was willing to give up his career as a biologist and come to America to do HARD LABOR, so his kids can grow up in this country.
I REPEAT....HARD LABOR⚖ BIOLOGY....
I ask... We want to keep men like this, out of our country? A country founded on immigrants! You ask me, this man is cut from the same cloth as the men who built this country. Immigrants! Who came here with some clothes, a dream, and a willingness to persevere through any and all obstacles that lay ahead, just to have a taste of the American Dream. In my opinion, that is exactly what the American spirit embodies!
How many biologist in America would sacrifice their job to do manual labor?
I HAVE A HARD TIME ANSWERING THAT QUESTION.
So...I will leave you with this.
"Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome"

Side note: I would love to hear different perspectives! After all, perception is reality, we all differ, but we are all created equally (no matter the melanin of skin) as humans!
All love!!
