I worked hours on a post. There was a glitch in the Steemit Matrix.
Over two thousand words last I checked.
I edited it. Reedited it. Read it aloud.
Found beautiful images to accentuate and accompany it.
One last check.
Perfect. I hit Post.
The little icon worked and worked.
It took an awfully long time
Then
BAM
I'm staring at the new posts screen and my words
All my words
Gone.
I hit back. Refresh.
I swore at my computer.
Ok ok I swore at Steemit.
Nothing.
Its lost
Lost forever in the deepest crevices of the blockchain.
I am so mad
RAWRRRR The Devil came out in you on that one lol, Like anything on the computer save often! I write my posts up is google docs first which saves every few seconds.
Yea, I usually write in word then copy to steemit... But this time....
Yup, I have invoked the devil in me!!!!!
I have loads of stuff I wrote in gmail, saved as a draft.
I have not had anything lost there yet... but it is a Google product so I am sure it has been scanned and stolen, shared with the CIA and will be held against me in a court of law one day....
@libertyranger - I was reading @arbitrarykitten when I found your comment:
"I have loads of stuff I wrote in gmail, saved as a draft. I have not had anything lost there yet... but it is a Google product so I am sure it has been scanned and stolen, shared with the CIA and will be held against me in a court of law one day...."
(c)2017 @libertyranger
I have good news for you. The NSA hacked the CIA’s computers and deleted their case against you. ( You were framed and charged with criminal tendencies toward “intellectual terrorism.” "Intellectual terrorism" is a pre-crime loosely defined as the uncontrollable compulsion of a gun-totin’ Libertarian to insist upon the constitutional right to think for himself without fear of reprisal. )
Civil war broke out between the NSA and the CIA. Somehow Russia was blamed. Vladimir Putin shrugged his shoulders and said, “Nyetch! Why can’t Donald control his people? OK, we will give asylum to this @libertyranger. He can have the room next to Snowden, but make sure there’s nothing in his boots.”
Suddenly @arbitrarykitten showed up and burst into the courtroom carrying her Friday the 13th "it’s-only-my-son" intruder stick. (“What courtroom?” you ask. In Russia there are courtrooms everywhere. It’s a Russian thing.)
“Your honor,” shouted @arbitrarykitten, “This is an unconscionable travesty of justice. Release the prisoner now and allow him to return to his badly abused jar of ugly rice. That rice needs him!” To which Putin (now wearing his Supreme Court Justice hat) replied, “OK fine, let him return to America, but Donald’s paying for this. You people need to learn how to manage your borders and keep your crazy CIA-NSA wars in your own back yard. Oy-vey!”
With these words, Putin turned slyly toward Kim Jong Un, (who was inconspicuously sprawled all over North Korea) and nodded. Kim raised his eyebrows, lowered his gaze, and blinked coyly at Vlad. Both men blushed in mutual understanding and conspiratorial silence. Vlad gave Kim his Mona Lisa smile.
But @libertyranger and @arbitrarykitten happily linked arms and walked out of the courtroom. Undaunted and fully clothed, they leaped into the Volga and swam all the way home where everyone lived happily ever after, until the next rigged election.
The End.
That's classic. I absolutely loved it. I would upvotes it twice or more but us libertarians only vote once as that is the law.
@libertyranger - Voting twice? God forbid. Even I don't vote for me. And I would never want to corrupt the morals of an upstanding Libertarian just to get my "two cents" in. I still haven't recovered from Ron and Rand. So thank you for reading and laughing and upvoting. Goodwill is good as gold! I just read your page profile. Anti-Twitter, anti-Facebook, pro-Christian? How did you escape from our tribe? Come home. We've missed you. I'm following you so you won't get away again!
Happy to be a member of the Tribe.
I promise to never run away.
will be held against me in a court of law one day - probably!
with a name like libertyranger your words are sure to be held against you someday. Oh Winston - don't you learn?
I always open two windows when I am ready to post, both with the submit a post form on them. I've seen too many disappear to risk it again. Once it claims to have gone through, I open a third window with my steemit homepage, just to check. If it shows my new post, then I'm good to go. If not, I open the "post" page on that third window and try posting from the second one....
It's a bit to go through, but a lot to risk otherwise. Also, I like to copy my finished post into a Word document before I try to post it too! Just in case.
For some reason I didn't "trust" Steemit's post page for my first few months. I always typed in Word, then copied to Steemit. But somehow it never copies correctly and I have to go back thru and space the paragraphs- it's weird. And then I'd save my Word doc to a folder on my desktop dedicated for just published Steemit posts.
But... this last month I relaxed and have been writing many articles on just the Steemit editor. GRRRR! Guess I learned my lesson!
The way you do it is a really thorough method- and well worth it! Because you can't get back the hours and all those beautifully arranged words :(
My condolences to the loss of your post.
It's happened to the best of us. That being me.
I suggest you write your post in a word processor. Only cut-n-paste when polished and ready. Have your images lined up, and import them all at the end.
Truly sorry,
Joe
Dear Joe,
Thank you so much for the letter of sympathy.
My loss was one that, although painful,
and enraging, does happen to each of us.
Thank you for being here for me
in my time of need.
I do not feel alone anymore.
I will take your words of encouragement
and hopes for the future
and make good use of your advice.
As I move forward with my life
and create more compelling posts
with Steemit.
Thank you again, and be well.
Kind Regards,
Kitten
So it seems STEEMit had a Facebook moment.
Yes, and I'm not the only one last few days!
You're not the only one...happened to me yesterday!
Deep breath and back to the drawing board!
Now I am hearing of this having happened in the last few days from many people... I'm seriously wondering if it has something to do with Steemit being down this weekend.
That's an interesting thought...I don't know all the details, but that would be an interesting after effect of a DDoS attack!
What we had Friday and Saturday WAS a DDoS attack!
Sorry to hear about your Steemit posting misfortunes @arbitrarykitten that truly sux! I had a few mishaps too, but I am now not taking any chances, am using notepad to write with. And I can relate, you're probably looking for more items to hurl at this very moment, along with some choice words to shout. Good luck on getting your post re-done.
You are absolutely correct!
Thank you so much :) Yea, I have nothing left to throw. And my rescue kittens are looking at me like I'm crazy so I'll ease up on the harsh words ;) lol
That really does suuuckk!!! If it's a post i know i won't remember i always save a copy on word or something, just in case. I hope you can scavenge the post again when you're not raging >_<
Yes :( Yes it does!
I have to start from scratch :( :(
But I have all my research tabs open and books I used-
Ok, okayyy I threw the books across the room. So I wouldn't throw my computer across the room.
GRRRR
...she will rewrite the article again
..... in WORD
sux don't it?
it's happened to me too...lately.
always backup...
Steemit has changed...
see...I warned ya..
If you'd read my blog you'd know these things..
It just happened twice. After I lost my long article I wrote the first I'm so mad post, but I didn't copy paste it to my clipboard... THAT disappeared too! So I wrote the second, copied it to my clipboard ( as you mention in you last post) but this time it worked. BS!!!
Lol, maybe that's the devil at work
MY greatest fear exactly, I have always had the assurance that I can close whenever, and come back to the same content.
Not sure if I am going to do the same after seeing this, I mean your posts are generally longer than the average posters so I can really understand your anger.
Thank you hun!
:D
calm down!! but OMG!!!! That's ....... I would die right there!!!
GRRRR!!!!! and stuff!
Hahaha, I work with a lot of softwares.... and when i forget to save. It's the end for me. like hours and hours of work.... :C
My blood pressure is thru the roof right now!!!!! I usually don't forget to save. But ...
GRRR
Urgh... i've learnt my lesson countless times.... I get so paranoid now that heavy work gets saved two version.
I'm going to be like that now!
Yeah it happened to me on a two bit post today. No big loss foe me, But I can see where you needed this venting post.
Hours and hours!!!
lol yea, I know it's my fault for not saving it in Word like I normally do...
but still
Time to meditate ooommmmhhh!
Oh I'm trying! And needing with my blood pressure so high!
:(
Something similar happened to me some time. Since then I write every post in "StackEdit" an in-Browser markup editor (https://stackedit.io/) which uses nearly the same syntax as Steemit. There is a GDrive plugin if you want to upload it directly to your Google cloud.
The rest is copy/paste :)
Good advice! Thank you!
That can be infuriating for sure. Steemit has been acting up a lot lately, hopefully they get these issues resolved. hopefully you are able to replicate those 2000 words again... and also publish them
Ever since last weekend when it went down, nothing but weird problems :(
Thank you <3
I most certainly learned my lesson! I have calmed down and am working on my beautiful post, rebirthing her from scratch...
But this time?
This time she will be better.
One Post to Rule Them All...
Oh, my gosh!!! This happened to me yesterday! I feel your pain!
It's never happened to me on Steemit. I wonder if it has sometthing to do with Steemit being down Friday...
I was so mad! I had worked hard on that post! I also promoted a post of mine. It was never promoted. It all happened on the same day.
Oh no :( I feel your pain

Your post up is impressive. Followed @arbitrarykitten
Wow, well... thanks!!! lol The one that prompted this one was much more impressive ;)
Lol!
Some people's offspring... ;)

I see that the hungry word gremlin has struck again. I can empathize with you. The greedy devil scarfed a post of mine Sunday morning.
I was so angry that I mowed my lawn. Something needed to be cut down to alleviate all that rage. Here's to your work being even better the second time around!
Yes, take it out on the lawn. Damn straight something has to pay!
Thank you <3
Same thing happened to me the other day. I noticed that the Post icon is different now, it used to be "Write a Post", now replaced by a blue button. I don't mind it, but the other one was dainty and elegant in comparison. I think it causes a few glitches from time to time, because it happened to me twice. I typically copy from my website, or post videos, so my blurb is short, but when I share certain other things, like the Healing Through Humour stuff, where I write on the spot about it, I now copy it just in case I need to start over, so I can just hit paste if ever.
I understand the frustration.
Yea, that was changed... Right around the time steemmit went down this weekend... UG!
It happened to me as well. Not lengthy as your post but it was gone as I pressed post. But luckily I had it in editor as I always do. I suggest you do the same in the future :)
Oh man, I learned my lesson!!!
I did exactly the same thing yesterday. And the same thing happened. So infuriating.
(I being really clever - hadn't saved it before hitting the post button) doh!
Ug! Dang it Steemit!!!
Arghhhh! I know how it feels!! That's why I always keep a txt of the html version that I update every 10 minutes or so!! Better safe than sorry!
Just try to get over it, inspiration will come back and you know that ;)
I know I know. Lol, but it's rage monster activated when it happens!
Thanks hun. I definitely learned my lesson!
Looks like this is a rather common experience. I too save my comments in a seperate document before posting. Mostly just a simple txt file.
Loosing your hard work like that in an instant can be very frustrating. I paint on glass and over the years I (only) broke 4 completed pieces. Between one and four weeks of work put into each 😱
Oh man, I can imagine... The shattered glass at your feet as your still holding the paintbrush..
Thank you <3
Oh no! That's really unfortunate. I hope you're able to reconstruct your article.
I have some suggestions that might help to stop this from happening in the future. First, check out this website. It's a markdown editor with side-by-side interface that saves automatically like Google Docs. No anxiety necessary. Next, I would install a clipboard manager if you don't already have one. They're very helpful when composing an article since you copy and paste so many things.
I hope this helps prevent this tragedy from happening again any time soon. Good luck!
Thanks so much for the advice! I'm definitely utilizing it!
Beware the almighty God of the steemit blockchain! Your swearing shall not remain unpunished (btw, I use and save my stuff on markdown pad, good program ;-)
Lol yes, I was punished for swearing after my long article was lost by having my original I Am So Mad post vanish as well ;(
Exact same thing happened to me. I will spare you the details of my dismay. 🐓🐓
Oh noes :(
Upvoted!
OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!..........................
Yeah do longer posts in some kinda word processor that auto saves every minute or so.
*Sigh... I feel your pain...
Always CTRL+A+C before hitting the POST button. (Make sure you're in HTML mode!!)
On a Mac? CMD+A+C.
COPY YOUR CONTENT TO CLIPBOARD! I can't tell you how many millions of times I lost paragraphs when I was younger due to negligence. Make it a habit! Or, open Notepad, Notes.app and COPY/PASTE what you have so far into your notes so (in case the browser freezes/crashes), you'll be fine.
I had that happen once as well and was slightly purturbed.
A secret that @teamsteem put me onto is to use Markdown rather than Word - it's much better for formatting Steemit style.
https://markdownpad.com/download.html
And before pressing post I save a quick copy of my finished post with the pictures to a temporary email, just in case
Yea, I so learned my lesson ;)
I love your images :)
