If you don't use it you lose it ........

....... is the recurring communication for the general public from, personal trainers, nutritionists, health and medical specialists.

Have you noticed?

The underlying messages are, 'Don't stop no matter your age!' If you want physical, emotional and mental wellness get off your butt. Walk 10,000 steps a day, go to the gym, do yoga, swim, cycle ....... or else suffer obesity, heart problems, diabetes and inflammatory diseases etc etc.

Research statistics are clearly showing that an ever-growing percentage of people are getting fatter and out of shape.

The red alert warnings regularly flash to the potatoes couchers and armchair sitters through the news, journal articles and papers.

Is the communication really getting across to the general public?
They are definitely receiving the messages, but are they choosing to get up from their comfortable positions to actively exercise? Maybe maybe not!

Why isn't everyone exercising and getting into shape?
Logic says they should be but the thing is, people make personal choices. They do this in a short space once they receive the information. They either decide yes or not. Some people ignore it altogether, others have a real want to swim, run, cycle, walk but don't or can't act on it. While others, lots of others actively embrace exercise. They hear, understand and act.

It is obviously very frustrating for the well-meaning and hard working nutritionists, personal trainers and medical/health specialists. People cannot be made to do anything unless they want to. This is the one factor that they cannot control.

Why is it that some people are into exercising and others aren't?
It all comes down to values, beliefs and personality. One has to enjoy exercise, find it pleasurable working out, looking good and feeling good. Not everyone does! Some individuals find other pursuits enjoyable that do not involve exercising and eating a nutritionally healthy diet. They are happy.

Motivation and determination to keep in shape is a personal choice as much as it is not to exercise.

Never trust one of these tiresome 'self-help' gurus...they don't give a damn about you, you're just money to them. And...you don't need them! Keeping healthy is pretty simple - don't do anything in excess and burn more calories than you consume. Simple!!

Yes, I agree. I go to yoga each week otherwise it is an at home effort for me.

Well, I guess we are responsible for our way of thinking... someone said "we are what we eat"

Yep. It is a shame that everything shows.

Howdy angiemitchell! It sure is a choice and something like 75% of men here are overweight and 60% of the women. I hope it isn't that high in Australia. I don't know why people let themselves get fat.
