In the waters between France and Great Britain, two cargo ships collided. According to the Pas-de-Calais prefecture, the situation is under control, there is no danger of ecological catastrophe.
One of the ships is a tanker carrying 38,000 tons of oil products and more than 200 meters long Huayang Endeavor container ship. The crash happened halfway between Calais and Dover.
The cause of the accident was difficult weather conditions - thick fog and high waves. None of the crew of both units, mostly Chinese and Indian seamen, had no injuries.
The tanker's plume was pierced, but above the waterline. The ship was towed to port to repair. The second unit could go on its own.
Two rescue vessels participated in the rescue operation and two helicopters.
This region of the English Channel is one of the busiest places in the world. Every day four hundred commercial ships pass through. This is a quarter of the traffic on the seas and oceans. This number does not include passenger ferries, fishing boats or yachts. The shipping hinders there changing their shoe placement, as well as strong currents.
