Why Weekends Matter More Than We Admit

All week, I can honestly say I like what I do. I like working, I like being productive, and I’m grateful to have a job that keeps me moving. But even with that gratitude, weekends still feel like the best part of the calendar.

Not because I hate Mondays, but because I need the pause.

Work has a way of taking more than our time. It takes attention, patience, and emotional energy. If we keep giving without refilling, burnout isn’t some dramatic event… it’s a slow leak. You don’t notice it until you’re already running on fumes.

That’s why I believe weekends matter. They’re not just “free days.” They’re recovery days. They’re the moment we remember we’re humans first, employees second.

And I think people who work hard during weekdays should pamper themselves during weekends, without guilt. You earned it, so you might as well treat yourself to something nice. A good meal. A quiet café. A long walk somewhere unfamiliar. Even just sitting in a place that helps you forget about deadlines for a while.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

Rest isn’t laziness. Rest is maintenance. And when we return to work after real rest, we don’t just feel better, we think better, respond better, and live better.

So here’s my weekend reminder to myself: slow down, enjoy the moment, and let my mind breathe. Next week will bring its challenges, but I don’t have to carry them today.

Have a great day!
