When is the end of the human workforce?
We've all noticed the changes right? If you haven't then you've had your head buried in the sand for too long! Things are changing very rapidly now, the technological breakthroughs we are making were considered science fiction only 10 - 20 years ago.
I don't want to talk about the last decade or 2 now though, I want to talk about what's happening right now and into the next decade or 2. Right now there is a new industrial revolution taking place it's being called the 4th Industrial Revolution. You can read more about it on a link to this Wikipedia article
What does this mean for us mere humans? Will this affect your or my job?
The chances are highly likely your job and mine along with 720 million others will be affected in the next 10 years alone. Personally and you can Google that number but I think it's likely to be much higher! ! The following decade could see more than 74% of current jobs gone! This is not the next generations problem - it's everyone's! One thing that is definitely likely to happen is a universal basic income for the poorer percentage of the population.
Right now a UBI is being tested in various countries and cities around the world.
Who is this likely to affect? Will it affect your or me?
I think it will definitely affect us all to be honest as 720 million is roughly 10% of the total human population.
This is my first steemit post and I have a million things to do so I will just leave you with a link to another post I've written on this subject: Automation Is Killing Our Jobs! | What To Do?
If your already on steemit then you may or may not be aware of what's happening, since most on here I would believe are here to create an online income and share content. If your reading this and not trying to create an online income and prepare for the rocky future ahead then you really need to do some research and start planning!
Was this article worth steemit? Let me know ;-)
So you on twitter so wanted to stop by and say hello. Congrats on the first article!
I have mixed emotions on UBI because I think the execution of it and the pending dependency of it could cause problems of a whole new sort. The roll out and testing of such a thing is much needed but I can see positive and negative effects.
Thank for visiting and comment. I am in the same boat I can see a very bright future but also a very turbulent and chaotic and not so good future. Our technology is advancing beyond our wisdom to use it in a fashion that doesn't cause harm to us, our planet and the rest of it's inhabitants.
Welcome to Steem Richard! I saw your tweet of this article and came by to say Hi!
I am like @steemitadventure and a bit skeptical about a UBI as it relates to human nature and motivation to do anything. Regardless of how much we automate and replace current job skills, there will always be a need for some sort of human element to the work force. Do we have enough people who are just motivated to work for the sake of working to keep things running, when everyone is receiving a payment for doing nothing?
It's an interesting question, and one delved in to a lot by science fiction authors to greater or lesser degrees.
One thing is for sure. The future is going to be interesting!
Hey Mike thanks for visiting and commenting! like yourself and @steemitadventure I see it has a 2 pronged fork - one really good and the other really bad. Both of these possible futures are as you said related to human nature. Yes there will be a human element for some time to come in the workforce but it will continue to dwindle as time tolls on.
Those that continue to work after the UBI is introduced will likely be paid much higher than those just on the UBI. In case you hadn't gathered from my Twitter feeds (thank you guys for following me there too if you do) I am a big science buff and am always looking at the latest technological developments and as you say @mikepm74 the future is going to be very interesting indeed!
Great article! Saw your tweet.
Thank you for the warm welcome, since this post went nowhere I'll be sure to checkout the simple steps you've provided.
Ahhh read the comments - lol - thanks anyway
