When you stop caring and vent onto the useless manager

in #work3 years ago (edited)

Hello folks, I have the night off work so why not bang out a rare SSUK post from my personal account. It's a rant about my real job because its pissing me off and i had to vent. I might have overstepped the line but im not really caring at the minute. I can walk into another bakery job no worries and I'll probably end up with more money because places cant get time served bakers. So half the people in my work or off from COVID and the manager doesn't seem to care so much about his staff or customers health and safety so im doing the public a service and not returning to work until I have a confirmed negative result from the PCR test, the process takes 2 days to complete so....oh shit....I can't come to work tonight are tomorrow night...bummer. My boss says he's not paying me and im like, can I have the managing directors email address, please.

What you read below is all true, the bakery I work from is small, only 16-18 staff in total but the place has an excellent reputation across the whole country, we cater for Royal Family visits to Northern Ireland to give you an idea of the standard we work to. But we also cater for weddings, local events and many hotel functions. Anyways, my manager never wrote to me back so wrote him an email. Gonna use fake names

Dear Steven

I will not be returning to work until i have a confirmed negative PCR test result and can ensure the safety of my family, my colleagues and our customers. I am not happy with this situation, you have put my family at risk of catching COVID by letting Richard return back to work 4 days too early after his wife tested positive 6 days before his return. 2 days after Richard's return to work, Joe tested passive with no symptoms, as did his wife and 2 sons. Now all of Joe's family is forced into 10-day isolation with 1 of his sons very ill and both he and his wife lose 10 days pay each a few weeks before Christmas. When Sam got COVID he was isolated for 23 days in total because his wife and kids were testing positive a few days after each other starting a new 10 day isolation period each time. You brought Richard back early because we are short-staffed with no thought toward the other staff's wellbeing even after night all the bakers said we would be ok for another 4 nights without him.

Your complete lack of compassion towards your staff is very discouraging when I think about my future employment within the company. We've been working 6 days a week sometimes up to 70 hours for the past 14 weeks. By a quick google search, I can see you have made no effect toward recruiting new staff for 5 weeks already. If no action is taken by you, I will exercise my right to opt back into the 48-hour work week meaning I clock in at 20.45 and out at 04.45 over 6 nights.

I took employment within the company because of its excellent reputation, because it used the best local ingredients and because im passionate about all aspects of baking. Standards have slipped since COVID started in 2020, they are lots of issues that I am concerned about and think need addressing. There's been a dead mouse in a trap in the flour store for around 9 days and counting. There was no soap in the bathroom for almost 2 weeks recently. Machines have broken ES bottoms, mixing bowls are held in place with wooden spoons and the small mixture only works when the start button is jammed with a knife. The walk in freezer has had no working lights for months. Every single storeroom, fridge and freezer has out of date ingredients that are being used in production and sent to customers. The bakery itself is filthy and machinery poorly maintained to the point where it is affecting food safety and quality. This is not a nice environment to work in.

Take from that what you want, im not really caring anymore to be honest. I like the guys I work with and I enjoy the work I do but because standards have slipped so far, it's just not a nice place to work anywhere and that's kinda on you.

I'll text you in 2 days to let you know if my family has COVID are not.

He has not written to me back yet but im pretty pissed off and at the end of my tether so what else is better than huge fuck you to your manager. His uncle, the managing director owns the business, the company has individual businesses like bakery, restaurants, events companies, etc so that's why he's the manager. He has no clue, no catering training, not even basic health and safety retard level 1 certificate, just gets other people to do his job for him while he works from home.

He's fucking lucky I was feeling less pissed off after I wrote it and never added his uncle to the recipient list. His Uncle is a self-made millionaire and works 14 hours a day, he's just soft and giving his nephew a leg up. The MD is actually a very nice guy, he just doesn't see what happens with the bakery and because the manager is working from home, anything is out of sight, out of mind.

I actually feel better the longer I need to wait for a reply, I'll probably not even get one, that's how much of a broken man this guy is.

Anyways, I've been working 6 days a week forever and mostly sleeping on my day off so now I have time to get the Christmas tree up and the house decorated, should be fun this year with our 10-month-old chocolate lab who loves shiny things. I spend a few hours in the living room this evening and the kids remember who i am, that's awesome, haha.

Hope you enjoyed the rant. For the rest of today, 2 am now for me in the UK, im gonna be mostly smoking weed, listening to some Logic, flipping between discord servers, checking in on my bags as it's been a while since I did the rounds properly to see what's where and I'll more than likely end up on amazon FOMO buying Christmas presents just to get it out of the way.

Peace out !!

Hang in there brother.

It's good to see you posting, rant or no. Hope it works out for you.

Well i hope all thisnl gets sorted soon for you buddy. Surely there are government guidelines to ehich your company must follow? Ours are that you can return to work, after taking a PCR test on day TWO of living with someone thatctested positive. If your PCR testnis negative, and youve had the vaccination, you can return to work.... You mist also do a PCR on day 8, ohh yeah and have NO symptoms.

Hope you get it sorted and you feel safer at work mate.

Take care

It's hard keeping up with all the rules when they get changed every few months. Test done and posted, will prob find out tomorrow.

cheers man :)
