Work till you drop! Uber-eats / Deliveroo. Student internship. Part 10.

in #work7 years ago

Replacing fun activity's by useful ones one by one.

This is what I've noticed myself doing lately. This is the way I am trying to reach my goals. Sacrificing comfort and free time for work or projects. If someone asks you to work this Saturday while you had no plans. You say yes. When you already have a job. You look for a second one. Instead of watching the entire new season of the stranger things. You make sure you have your steemit blog ready first. This is my way to my first big life goal. Buying my dream motorcycle. The Ducati Diavel.

Deliveroo.

So it turns out I've got 2 jobs now. I work my internship at DaRa Switchboards. And I've got accepted to be a freelancer for Deliveroo. This means I've had to get my own Australian business and business number.

At first I started trying to get a job at Uber eats. However Uber requires you to have a Victorian license to deliver food in Melbourne. Then at the same time I applied for Deliveroo. Its a long and painful process involving asking for a Australian business number and uploading loads of documents and identification. After that you might get ignored for a week or two. And then they ask you to go trough a police check. Once you've passed your background check they wait another maybe week. Before I got the message that I entered the 8 step process becoming an actual delivery partner. This includes uploading more documents like insurance and license. Doing online training and ordering the Deliveroo required gear. This gear you have to pay yourself. A full set of gear set me back around 185 AUD. You pay 25% ahead and 75% gets hold in from your salary. But after all this you are set to go!

I've only been doing this once now. For about 2 and a half hours. I had 10 delivery's. One delivery is 10 AUD. So you can make about 40 AUD in a hour. That is a lot!
My first tip is to get a cheap chinese smartphone like the K6000 from oukitel. These last for an easy screen on time of about 12 hours at least. You will not have this phone die on you while working. Because they are cheap its also safer if you crash your bike or drop your phone while dealing with customers or restaurants. I WiFi to connect it to my main Samsung galaxy S8 in my pocket that has 4g with a Hotspot turned on. This way the phone gets a stable connection without sim-card.

If you are also interested in driving deliveroo. I recommend buying a open-face helmet like a Vespa or Italian styled helmet. This way you do not have to take it off when entering restaurants and picking up food. I recommend depending on your age and where you live. To get a big scooter like a 125+ CC one. Extra speed definitely helps your deliver times and big scooters have more stable wheels. If you decide you get a motorcycle you should realize you need your hands more to shift the engine. You can not interact with your phone or map as good as on a scooter. For a motorcycle I see a lot of CBR125 driving around. They have good price and millage but I would not recommend them. The comfort is mediocre and the backpack is really about 3 times as wide as the motorcycle itself. I would recommend something with more fat wheels and maybe 2 cylinders. For example a Gs500 or a Hyosung 650 GV Like I am driving myself.

The reason I started driving for Deliveroo is because I needed a job to survive pay my rent and food. However now I've also got a job at my internship. I wanted to do Deliveroo besides it to earn more and follow towards my life dreams. Maybe enjoy my weekends of doing amazing stuff as well.

But not this weekend. eCommerce

This weekend I was working both Saturday and Sunday to learn about Amazon and eCommerce. The project was at the Novel hotel in St Kilda. Witch is suppose to be a 4 star hotel. I would rather give it 2/5 stars.. The food on the first day was terrible. Burn but half cold macaroni and cheese. Anyways. I've met some good connections and learned / refreshed some knowledge in my mind about setting up a Amazon store.

Made some new LinkedIn friends and maybe future opportunities to work together. One of our coaches, Neil asher, is a very inspiring personality that has done these kinds of things lots of times. I've got loads of idea's but never work them out...

But. As I said this meeting gave me a good pack of inspiration and some motivation. I've had some new insights and idea's for my own projects somewhere in the future. To export and import specialty items to Holland and Australia.

Hayfever

But. I had to die from hay fever again as well. Everyone I talked to asked about it it was this obvious and bad. I has lots of tissues. That night I had the worst sleep in months waking up on hay-fever about 3 times.

I had to buy another box of medication because I forgot my other 3 boxes at home.. I've used both cetirizine, loratadine and fexofenadine. On one day. And I still got really sick! These are expensive too. I pay 25 AUD for a spray and 10 pills.

Wingman coach

And something weird happened... For some reason I am a 23 years old guy that has never been in a relationship. However a lot of older people think I am interesting or cool or something in that line. They say they can't understand I am still single or say I am good looking. This time one of the male coaches even tried to set me up with his wife's friend, He litterery called my name in the middle of the meeting / presentation and said. "Ey Raymond, I've got girl for you.." I thought I did not hear that right so I walked to the door he was standing and he repeated "I've got a girl for you.." And pointed at the friend besides his wife. "She is really pretty and smart!" I just nodded and laughed it off. Went back to my place and sat down. Looked over my shoulder and he was still nodding and smiling at me. Pointing to the window where the girl was going to pass by in about a minute on their way to the beach....

I would love to date a girl. Don't get me wrong. But somehow I feel my own age group is not really on one line with me. I can't seem to find a place to meet great girls without having to "act" and "flirt" in clubs or be creepy on the public transport.

Afterparty

After a weekend of hard work we went to the local tap house. I've had some great beers and you can read about them here.

Broken motorcycle..

The next day after work. I was really tired still when I got on my motorcycle in this Monday morning. I drove around 500 meters and all the electronics switched off.. It did not start anymore. I think the battery is dead. Currently its picked up by the garage who are looking into it. And I have to use the public transport to get to work witch is a pain in the ass as it almost takes 2 hours !!

Cyaaaa

Well. That was it for this week. Nothing to exiting maybe. I am just hoping to get back on my bike ASAP so I can start delivering food again.

I know my story might swing a lot from left to right and back without a good red wire in it. My apologies for that. If you got any questions or feedback on this post. Or amazon / deliveroo. Ask me !!

Everyone works hard and dreams about something. Ducati is a good choice, but you need to be very careful. I am dreaming now about Indian Scout Boober :)

Hard work always pays off. Very refreshing to read about someone who is genuinely working hard rather than wishing for money. Keep it up

Thanks. I'll try.

Hope the hard work pays off soon. Stay Blessed
