A friend asked if we could make him a table top for a base he had already. He didn't even wait for the answer and the base was loaded onto our vehicle.
It didn't end with the table top, the whole base was is bad shape and needed a complete overhaul, so to speak. Dealing with hand-carved furniture is always a time consuming exercise. It came out very well and was worth the effort.
The plan for the table top was to join three boards, cut them to size, mount it and done. That was the plan, reality was different. The mahogany boards were twisted and not suitable for the top to use as one piece. We had to cut them down into smaller pieces, playing a bit "Tetris" to line them up and started to glue them together in sections. Took a while due to lack of big clamps.
After the agony of sanding we could finally marry the top and the base and were very pleased with the result. A few coats of anteak oil for the finish and the coffee table was ready for delivery.
