I turned a small hollow form from a branch of a downed tree left by the road for bulk pickup.
Here it is in the bed of my truck.
It has some pretty distinct foliage. Hopefully I can figure out what kind of tree it is.
Here it is from wikipedia.
It is called African Sumac, but I think I like Mokalaabata better.
Mokalaabata
Anyway, the branch was about 6 feet long, so I sawed off a chunck and threw it on the lathe.
I roughed it out until the walls were about half an inch thick and let it sit on a shelf for two weeks to season.
Then I put it back on the lathe and thinned out the walls to less than a quarter, polished it and gave it a quick coat of caranauba wax.
Wow so beautiful!! I have done a bit of wood lathe work and loved it! I wish I had the space to have an industrial wood lathe. Maybe one day! Going to follow to see more of your lovely wood creations!
Thanks:) Glad you like it!

Great to see you on here, finally another woodworker. I'm trying to bring a bunch of the instagram guys over here. Following along now.
Great, thanks! I gave up on instagram after it got choked with ads.
thats a nice little bowl. good job! I think I'll have to buy myself a lathe this year...
It is nice to bang out a finished bowl in a few hours. Most of my furniture projects take months to finish.
Awesome!!,
