2 Oak coffee table tops

in #woodworking7 years ago

Hello everyone!
We are back after some time off with new projects, here are two very nice Coffee table tops,
just table tops, no legs(Customers wish). One with water based, food safe finish, another with chemically enhanced oil based finish for toughness, darker tone and different grain exposure.
Choice of wood was Oak, couple of years old and air dried, 2 beautiful cookie slabs about 7 inches or 18cm thick.

First we had to remove all the bark from the cookie slabs and make each side of cookie parallel.
Since we do not have special equipment for this kind of job we had to improvise. :)

One more to go...

At this point it started reminding us about Mickey Mouse face. :D

It needed a lot of sanding and we also added Beech wood butterfly on the bottom side to prevent further wood cracking.

And than the most satisfying part of the job, applying the finish...

The grains and the tone are so beautiful, nature is the greatest artist.
