8 Wonderful & Surprising facts about Jagannath Puri Temple in India

Jagannath Puri is a holy place in Orrisa (India), Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra are the very famous deites. There are 8 wonderful facts regarding the Temple which are really amazing to know. When you hear about it, you would really want to go there. I came to know in the year 2010, when I first visited there. I would like to share with you these amazing things which are really surprising to hear.

  1. The Flag on the top of the Chakra above the Temple flaps in the opposite direction of the air.
  2. From anywhere in Puri, East , west, north or south, will always find Sudarshan Charka (on the Top of the Temple) facing you.
  3. Shadow of the main dome is invisible at all times of the day
  4. The Birds or the Aeroplanes never flies above the Temple.
  5. As normally during the day, air come from the sea to land and during night, the air comes from the land to sea. But in Puri, it’s totally opposite.
  6. The Prasadam (remnants of the Lord’s tasted food) is cooked in the same quantity the whole year. But the same quantity is sufficient to feed a few thousand of people and 30,00,000 people also. And it never gets wasted.
  7. In the Temple Kitchen 7 pots are kept on each other and cooked on firewood. The process of cooking is opposite here as the contents in the top pot get cooked first and then the bottom one.
  8. Inside the temple gates, you cannot hear the sound of the ocean waves, but as soon as you move out of the gate, you can hear sound of ocean. This can be clearly notices in the evenings.
    So I request you, at least once in your life time. Please go the Jagannath puri – the holy place of pilgrimage. There are many wonderful real stories related to the Temple which will prove the personal existence of the lord in the deities form.
