The amount of attention this phenomenon is getting is certainly also compounded by the fact that China's One Child policy created a generation where the ratio of males to females is 1.15:1. As this already created a large pool of Chinese men who would be unable to find a partner, it is no wonder that Chinese society is reacting negatively to women who they feel are not fulfilling their familial duties.
