Datura is the most amazing flower I've ever seen.
This is how the magic starts. Below you can see the pod, preparing to open and you can see the flower bud, which is a light khaki and it's fully twisted.
In a couple of hours the bud comes out of the pod and starting to unfold.
This is the most amazing and most beautiful part of the process. Look at the bud below, it's still khaki but it's lighter already.
This is a close up to see the magic :)
In a couple of hours the bud looks like this. It's starting to open, to unfold and it's not khaki any more but it's not white either. It's a very light purple or pink. This is the best part of the blooming. I love it when it looks like this.
And the magic goes away :) This is the fully open flower! It's white :)
And now comes the fun part:
- the datura flower only blooms once,
- one can have many flowers almost the same time,
- it opens at night,
- it opens in a couple of hours,
- the flower lives for max 2 - 3 days.
This is based on what I've seen in our garden, not based on a scientific study.
The bottom line: I had to watch the flower from noon to late in the evening to catch all the phases of the opening :D These flowers are planted in the front yard. I had to go out almost hourly to see the blooming evolution and to catch the best part of it. It was late night when I finished my documentary :D And it was fully open in the morning.
After the flowers wither, the seeds starting to grow in these pods.
Note: This is not a flower for balcony or indoor spaces. It takes up a lot of space and grows high. This is definitely for outside gardens.
I am posting this for the White is White Contest Challenge by @dmcamera, with Wednesday's category of Flowers

At one point this flower looks like origami to me, so interesting and unique, nature is perfect indeed! Thank you for this lovely post :)
I'm glad you like it :)
The swirly petals are so so pretty! And I actually like it more when it is not fully open yet. It has that cool shape :)
Me too :)
Ez csodálatos, és nagyon különleges. A Daturát mi angyaltrombitaként is ismerjük.
Köszi Zsuzsi, igen, ismerem ezt az elnevezését is.

Thank you Keith!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention @erikah This flower is extraordinary. Your patience in waiting for all the fascinating stages to complete was well worth it. Beautiful images and great information my friend.
Thank you Trudee! It wasn't easy, had to watch it all afternoon and evening and at the end I had to stay outside in order not to miss the best part :D
Love your dedication and passion Erika. You did a fabulous job.
These are so pretty... I love how the ends of the petals twirl when unopened! We have those here too but they may be a different variety... a close variant. Comes in yellow, peach, orange and white too! :)
You are lucky to have them there. :) I know there are many different varieties but I've only seen them on the internet.
These are gorgeous shots Erica..............I love how you captured the process of unfolding this magical flower 🌸💖🌸
