Yabapmatt's Witness Update - Server Updates & First Philly SteemIt Meetup!

in #witness-category7 years ago (edited)

It’s been a while since my last post thanks to a fun bout with the flu this past week - but I’m all good now (well except for this darn nagging cough) and I thought I would send out a witness update for those of you who are into that sort of thing!

First the boring technical stuff:

Technical Stuff

  • I have updated my primary and backup witness servers to include the new security patch which was recently released. You can read more about that here: Security Patch Announcement
  • I have also upgraded to servers with 64 GB of memory since the shared memory size for a witness node is already up to 24 GB and climbing pretty fast! 64 GB should buy me a couple more months hopefully (unless things really take off!) before I’ll bump it up to the next level.

Now onto the more interesting stuff…

First Philadelphia SteemIt Meetup!

I attended the first Philadelphia SteemIt meetup hosted by @hypnopreneur and it was great! There were about 20 or so people there and many of them were completely new to Steem so it was a great way to spread the word about how awesome Steem is to crypto-enthusiasts in the Philly area.

I also met two gentlemen who are running a small crypto hedge fund in Philadelphia which is partially invested in liquid STEEM. I’m going to be meeting with them in the near future to help answer their questions about how the Steem platform works in more detail and the benefits of powering up some of their STEEM holdings. Also I would like to see if there’s some ways we can work together to bring more visibility and investment into the platform.

Bringing In New Investors

I’ve created accounts for three new investors since my last update, and while that’s not a huge number by any means, they each have a significant amount of potential funds to invest and have a large network of investors that they can also tap into once they start to see some good results.

My work on the investment front has been slow and tedious but I still hope to bring $1M+ investment of USD into STEEM over the next 3 - 6 months.

Software Development

From the software development side I am still constantly working on the Post Promoter voting bot software and the Steem Bot Tracker website to make content promotion as simple and user-friendly as possible while also combating abuse.

Recently I have been working with @themarkymark to make a number of changes to the software to stop abusers from using the bots such as shared blacklists, automatic donation of blacklisted bids to abuse-fighting services, and soon the ability for the bot to check if certain accounts like @cheetah, or @steemcleaners have flagged a post and, if so, it will not give it an upvote.

Regardless of where you stand on the vote buying issue, it’s definitely not going away so the least we can do is work to stop the abusers and encourage legitimate content promoters.

In addition to all of the above, I also released a new Steem Power Delegation Manager Tool which you can [read about here] (https://steemit.com/utopian-io/@yabapmatt/new-steem-power-delegation-manager-tool).

I really think that such a delegation management tool should be included right within the wallet page in condenser since it’s such an important (albeit advanced) feature, but until then, at least this one is available. You can also use the vessel desktop software by @jesta to manage delegations, but I thought it would be helpful to have a web-based tool in case you don’t have your personal computer handy.

Thanks For Your Support!

That’s about it for this update! Thank you very much to everyone who has voted for me and otherwise supported my efforts here - I could not do it without you!

For everyone else, if you liked what you’ve read and you want to help support my work for the Steem platform I would very much appreciate your vote!

Thanks for the update, I'm proud to give you my Witness vote :-) - I just learnt what that was all about a few days ago!

Thank you @kimmiecfields, and welcome to Steem! Witness voting is a very important part of this platform so I'm glad to see newer users are learning about it. Please help spread the word!

I will for sure! I just started to use your steembottracker site, now my husband is using it too :-), that's how I found out about you, and not to just vote for vote sake, but to vote for Witnesses who you actually think care for the platform and the community! Keep it up!

Sounds like you're doing some good things that will benefit us all. Keep up the good work.

Awesome! I think you are already proving yourself quite worthy. Keep up the good work!

thank you saw much

@yabapmatt i comment on your post about .. making upvote bot .. "@yabapmatt i have little knowledge about the server and languages but i have some questions .. like is bot power recharge/refill every 2.4hrs ? and i am college student doing computer science as you know students have litle assets so i cant start bot as a huge investment if you have some policy in giving a loan or something ? you can charge 50% even 80% until your loan recover. I hope you help me i need some kind of investor for me i know you will think why "i gave him", but think your help changes someone life. i am not asking for too much investment just a little for new start, you can also talk with your team members like @@@@aggroed may be someone do for me ..
thankyou" can you please answer this

Yeah as far as getting investors is concerned im too looking into it. Next Monday we have planned a session with friends investors and guess what they have no idea about Steem yet.

They will be amazed at the potential. The hype (no of accounts created, weiss rating, getting real $ instead of just likes & the fact the steem is the no1 crypto as far as the transactions are concerned...) will be enough to get them started. 1000 people putting in $1000 would make a Million. very possible :)

Thank you mjrcrypto for making a transfer to me for an upvote of 1.44% on this post!

Half of your bid goes to @budgets which funds growth projects for Steem like our top 25 posts on Steem!

The other half helps holders of Steem power earn about 60% APR on a delegation to me!

For help, will you please visit https://jerrybanfield.com/contact/ because I check my discord server daily?

To learn more about Steem, will you please use http://steem.guide/ because this URL forwards to my most recently updated complete Steem tutorial?

You are truly a witness to be proud of.

Thank you for your hard work.

I have a question for you. Why are some bots not showing for me, but for other users.
Do you have set up some country restrictions or why is this? I am using your site from germany.

The site doesn't hide any bots or have any country restrictions. There are filters above the bid-based bot listing that allow you to specify certain kind of bots you want to see / hide. Can you make sure you don't have any filters selected? If so you should see all of the bots on the list.

Nope. I double checked that. Here is a screenshot from 1 minute ago:
bots.JPG
As you can see no filters are applied and I am only getting this short list. What could it be?

Could it be a bug in your coding? I think you not answering right now means you are looking into it. I can guarantee you that at least the jerrybanfield bot has never shown on my screen.

I'm at work right now so I'm sorry that I can't look into it right away for you. It seems like it's not showing bots that use an API to report bids, which seems to indicate that you are not able to load the APIs for those bots for some reason.

As far as I know it is working just fine for everyone else, so my guess is that it's something on your end that is blocking access to those APIs. You can try checking in the browser console and see if there are any errors there which may indicate what is going on.

Thanks. Your hint was very helpful. It's working now. Yes, the api could not be loaded, because of my scriptblocker noscript.
I forgot to whitelist some of the scripts... Sorry, this was my mistake. I should have thought about that first ;-)

Hello there Yab :D

Do you use Discord? If so, can I add you?
