A good time to support lower ranking witnesses

in #witness-category6 years ago (edited)

This is the cheapest server to run a witness node on @privex.

Means 340~ STEEM per month. To be able to cover this cost with witness rewards you need to be at least inside top50.

Being a witness doesn't have a simple formula like that example. We're here to support the network and nobody promises any guaranteed rewards for running a witness node.

However, I see some of the witnesses already thinking to disable their node because of the constant negative ROI, that may be a good time for you to cast your all witness votes.

Self-plug: I am also a witness for a while. You can cast a witness vote for me from here with a click if you didn't do already.

I feel you bro, I believe I am in red numbers now as a witness but I want to continue to support this community even if it is coming out of my own pocket at the moment.

I have been voting for you with all of my accounts, I hope it helps.. I think you are worthy of a top 21 position, your python library, explorer and dpoll.xyz are more than enough to put you up there !

Best of luck!

It is good to see this @emrebeyler , I hope top witnesses deserve to be a witness.

Thanks for the witness vote! 🎉

You are welcome @emrebeyler

Stuck at 79 :( I would vote for your twice if I could. The only two of my witnesses that I follow and read their content are both outside of top 20. Sucks

Thanks for your support mate! Top20 is also doing a great job regarding their duties. :-)

What kind of bandwith needs are we talking about for a witness node? And how much more for making that node an JSON-RPC node as well? I've got a NAS and an old development PC that together might be up to specs I guess, but they are on a home DSL connection (40M down /28M up).

Here is a monthly overview :)

Thanks, so 28Mbit up should be quite enough, right?

That is, if I take 246060*0.028/8 = 302.4 GByte, the peek day would be about 4% of my max daily upload capacity if I understand correctly.

Is that graph including the JSON-RPC node part?

You are also witness for a while and I appreciate your work for Steemit for users etc. @emrebeyler , I hope you will be in top 19 very soon. Thanks for the information. (btw, I already voted for you a few months ago)

Thank you Fatih, much appreciated.

Mightypanda approves you as his witness :)

Thanks! 🎉

Just voted for you although my SP isn't meaningful. It seems you keep doing something cool. Nice job!

Thank you! 😊

Yeah, I’ve been considering whether shutting down the node would be the right move for me. I have plateaued on support, so there’s little chance for me to cover losses by moving up the ranks. I’ll see what happens with prices until year-end, then decide how much longer I’m willing to support a network that mostly refuses to support me...just because I’m critical of STINC.

Ah...to voice unpopular (but accurate) opinions about failed leadership. Who knew so many invested users would be lapdogs for failed d-bags?

my hope is, you can hang in and out wait some others... as they drop out, it moves you up and if, by some miracle, the value of Steem ever recovers, well, maybe being a witness will be financially possible again!

You could also add https://steemian.info/witnesses list to your post next to https://steemit.com/~witnesses.

done. ✌️

my SP is low.you doing Nice job!

Hi, I am also a witness but I was prepared to spend money instead of making, hope you also had the same mindset when you started haha

I am doing this because I love Steem and I love working with servers.
But I would definitely like to receive more blocks for my server, so if you want to vote for a small witness consider voting for me

I have just made a post explaining in the end why do I deserve a vote and what have I done to make the votes casted to me worth it. It is worth the read :)
