RE: It's the Great @Pumpkin, Steemit! 🎃 A Halloween Story and Witness Update

in #witness-category • 7 years ago

What we can do is hope and encourage our mysterious benefactors to choose witnesses to lift who are also lifting Steemit, new users, and the Steem economy.

What do you reckon us Steemians to do in order to positively encourage our mysterious benefactors to drive Steemit towards the right direction? @followbtcnews

@aaronmcheong very good question, and I gotta say, one I was not prepared to answer..lol

So, just thinking off the top of my head.. If you believe in and support a particular witness, then make a post about that witness proposing support to your friends for that witness.

Also, make sure to hold witness's accountable. Wittiness's have a large responsibility, And as one myself, it's very time consuming, if your doing what needs to be done.

Personally, I work full time on Steemit/Steem related issues and projects. I literally work 10-14 hours a day/7 days a week on these projects. I believe in the success of Steemit and Steem. And I firmly believe in crypto and decentralization.

I aim to see people become successful on Steemit. And I love seeing new users signup, post great content, and be rewarded for that. And I am doing everything in my power to help :)

@aaronmcheong : Do your research, and find witnesses to vote that you believe in based on merit or service. Very few Steemit users actually vote for witnesses. Get involved with discussions on what you actually think will make Steemit better... constructively. You have no way to force large accounts to do anything, and shouldn't, but if enough users lead by example and work together towards common goals, then bigger accounts should take notice of that. While many small accounts still don't have the proof of stake that the bigger accounts have, they do represent a diverse cross-section of Steemit users and large trends in the overall population will hopefully be considered.

@crimsonclad you're right, I may be new on Steemit (almost 2 weeks now) but I do believe in the potential of it and certainly I would love to play a part in its growth too. How can I vote for witnesses?

Sorry it took me a day to get back to you. You can go to https://steemit.com/~witnesses and either choose witnesses that are already in the top 50, or enter a name in the box at the bottom to vote for a witness who may not be visible in the top 50 list. You will likely end up doing a combination of votes.

You get 30 total votes, and they are NOT permanent choices. You can move them as you see fit, at any time. It's a way to keep choices accountable, so as projects are launched, initiatives are taken, or time goes on, you can shift your votes accordingly. Most witnesses make occasional update posts and will do things like interviews or be available on steemit.chat or discord, so you can figure out who lines up with what you want to see happen.

Hopefully that gets you started!

Thank you so much for the clarification @crimsonclad! Followed you :P
Btw, do I lose anything in return for voting? Eg. SP, SBD etc..

Witness votes do not cost you anything in terms of steem power or voting power at all. There are no barriers to entry when it comes to your choices. However, it is obviously a delegated proof of stake system, which does mean that your "say" in term of vote weight grows in conjunction with the growth of your steem power on the platform. (You do not earn anything in curation or whatever either.)
