In the world, there are so many predators that lives in the wild ranging from mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fowls and aquatic lives the Big Cats can be referred to be of great elegant and portray a style of royalty. Just at first sight, we can be able to identify these specie of animals by their looks, on movie series, pictures and even when we are in the wild but have you ever imagined how much of these animals do you really know?
The cheetah is reckoned for his ability to run swiftly as the wind, the tiger is reverend for the magnitude of his strength and so also does other specie have an outstanding character or a slight glitch that makes them to be unique. On the episode of today we shall take a look on some of the mind blowing facts of these felids.
CHEETAHS.
Like I earlier stated, these animals are reckoned for it's ability to be very fast when running, it can hit 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds. It's top speed has been clocked at 64 miles per hour. You should consider checking on the distance covered by the fastest car.
Obviously we don't always get all that we have, this also can be said about the cheetah who are known to only be successful in half of their hunting attempts, despite it's incredible energy.
Cheetahs are known to have been existing for over a million year still it experiences a decline in population as records estimate that they where over 100,000 cheetahs in 1900 but only 9000 to 12000 exist in the wild today.
JAGUAR
The name Jaguar is derived from "yaguar" which means he who kills with only one leap due to the animals incredible hunting skill and strength the native Americans called him so.
The Jaguar a family of the Big Cat portrays a look alike character like every other Big Cats except for it's water loving nature. Other Big cats are known to dislike water but this is not the case of the Jaguar who can be seen swimming and even carries out hunting activities in the water. Second to the Hyena is the Jaguar who has the strongest bite.
The Jaguar is now considered as endangered species as the population reduce to over 15000 in the wild this is as a result of habitat loss and hunting.
LEOPARD
Known to be the smallest of all Big Cats but also can be said to be very corny too as it carries large preys up the trees to keep it away from scavengers. They do most of their hunting on the ground but are seen on the tree tops living most of their lives.
During mating season, the snow leopard is known to mate for about 12-36 times a day. Don't even think of giving it a try it because you're only human lol.
Although these animals have adapt to thrive in vary environment, they are regarded as critically endangered in all class of their species. The Javan leopard has only 250 species in the wild while the Amur leopard has just 20 individuals left in the wild.
TIGER
Just like the leopards, the tigers can climb too but are not very good at it, they are in their best performance while they have their four feet on the ground.
The tiger is the largest of all the Big Cats and also can be said to be the greediest too as it can eat about 35-90 pounds of meat in just one sitting, maybe this is as a result of poor hunting skills as it is known to be successful once in every ten attempts.
These animals are typically loners but reports have shown tigers travelling in group with the sole purpose of mating, or maybe they are closely related like the young tiger sticking to the mother as it learns how to hunt.
The people that lives in Bengal wear masks on the back of the head to prevent the attack of a tiger because tiger are known to only attack from behind.
The drastic decrease in the population of these tigers can be said to be alarming as it is recorded to have reduced from 100,000 tigers that were in the wild during the 1900 to about 3,200 tigers.
LION.
It will surprise you to know that the male lions don't usually take part in hunting as it gets it's meal by bring the primary protector of the female. The females work as a team to hunt prey and they bring these prey home as food for the family.
The lions are the only social species of the Big Cats as it is very affectionate with it's family and loved ones.
The lions population has decreased by half since the 1950s. Survey shows that they are fewer than 30,000 lions living in the wild today.
