THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 53 – SPOTTED SALAMANDER

in #wild-man7 years ago

This is one of my favorite salamanders!

The Spotted Salamander (Ambystoma maculatum) is a very interesting amphibian that was once popular in the pet trade.

After enjoying this species up in Wisconsin for years, it was nice to finally see one here in Arkansas. A special thanks to @bluerthangreen for finding it for me!

These ones are somewhat similar to the Tiger Salamander and the Blue Spotted Salamander, both of which I have already featured. The Spotted Salamander is another type of Mole Salamander. They can grow to about ten inches in length. Enjoy the video!

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

For me, they are one of the cutest amphibians i have ever seen.
I have always imagined them as the fire breathing monster in video games. :D

And here i am, posting about dogs and cat cafes. ;)

They are very cute!

You are wonderful with your likes

I never knew that salamanders could regenerate a partial brain and head, truly incredible! I appreciate that your wash your hands before handling amphibians, seeing that their skin acts as their lungs basically.

I would encourage everyone to keep track of the frogs, salamanders, and interestingly enough, the likens that grow on the trees in your area. All these things suffer first when pollution is present and air quality is down.

A great big thank you to @thelivingpoet!

Good point about being aware of the things that can clue us in on a polluted environment.

why do you always wear sunglasses...???

Why do you ask daft questions? Its obviously to keep his lazer vision from char grilling the 💩 out of the lizard and the camera! Would you like to film someone who is burning a hole in your chest with their super powers? I thought not...

right yes.
that's a question of people ... ???

🤔
...
I QUESTION OF PEOPLE! ✊
...
🤷

up to you..👏👏👏👏

wow it looks dangerous thanks for sharing this experience with us

This is so cool, a lot like Brave Wilderness - which is one of my favorite channels! The salamander is so chilled as well.

Not familiar with Brave Wilderness, but if it is something like this, then is must be pretty cool to see. Also, if you like this, here is a link to the first fifty pots in the series: https://steemit.com/wild-man/@papa-pepper/the-wild-man-s-wild-friends-video-series-celebration-50-animals-featured-already

It's been a lot of animals and a lot of fun!

I apologize in advance .. why do you always wear sunglasses .... ???

I don't....

SEE?

Get them all the time around here!

A bit smaller than the skinks that visit me... I've always been partial to newts (the Crimson Spotted in particular)

Tried to find a newt last night, will try again soon!

I keep looking out in the woodpiles- they like that kind of spot, but I haven't had any luck either. Plenty of skinks- I wonder if they scare the newts away... They're pretty big!

Really nice post.....I enjoyed reading

Beautiful and cute!
Thanks for sharing!

I like slamander, thank you for sharing.

Hey, @papa-pepper! Another favourite wild creature. Just admit it, they are all your favourites! lol Now, I see you have your neighbours finding new creatures for you. Does this mean that I I find something new and interesting here on my homestead, you would do a vlog about it? I guess it depends on the distance needed to travel...lol

Sure, it might take me a bit to get down there though.

is not it poisonous? I say it for its colors and yellow dots.
I did not see the video because the internet is a bit slow, as soon as I can see it

It can secrete a toxin from its skin, but it is not really dangerous.

One of my favorite pastimes, when I was a kid was going out to the swamp and catching a few of these beautifully spotted lizards. I had six brothers! I couldn't help wanting to be part of the herd

My mother always had us wash our hands before we went out- you think she knew? I know she had that eye in the back of her head. Nobody is that good!

Thank you for going over the facts of these wildly popular wonders. Who hasn't had one? They were like winning a prize if you got one.

I am not sure If I want to congratulate you or hug you for all the very usable information on everyday life, living and raisin' those chilluns up right. I don't know about you, but, I wasn't born a parent and any information that is fun to know or worthy to have insight on, Is always worth sharing. It really does take a village. I just wish someone else had coined that phrase

Thanks again, my friend. You are totally an original.

Upped and Steemed

I've got more insight on raising children too... we don't have a lot of experience, but we have a lot of incentive! I'll keep more coming. Not sure if you saw this one, but you might like it!

I hadn't but, we always raised our kids with the motto that every person participates We all live here and many hands have always made the load lighter. If everyone helps, we all get to know and become knowledgeable or at least familiar in all the jobs.

Now, I am going to read it! :) Thanks!

I like that motto.

Hiya Bro ! Great post as usual ! I'm back, hopefully for good this time ! The spotted I have caught through out the years are the one you have here and it's twin but with orange spots. They both like moist deep shade undisturbed areas.
Keep up the Good Show ! nice to "See" you again !

In this Hell called Hot Springs .... I suppose some people like this ... stuff ... Miss the mountains soo bad ... trying to put my best foot forward. Being able to see your post makes my days ... Really ! Good luck Bro !

Your knowledge about these cute creatures are second to none. I enjoyed your video, thanks!

I knew about regrowing the tail but I had no idea they could do what you said, that's incredible!

Yeah, crazy stuff! What incredible creatures!
