Scientists will begin interviewing people connected to the initial outbreaks in research institutes, hospitals and marine markets. Their study will rely on evidence provided by Chinese officials. It started after months of talks between the WHO and Beijing.
Some relatives of the victims of the Kavid-19 in China are expecting to meet with investigators. Zhang Haier, a local in Wuhan, whose father died in February, told the BBC he hoped he could talk to the WHO to help them investigate.
The investigation team visited Huanan Market and Wuhan Institute of Virology. They will also check for coronavirus from bats. The SARS virus was discovered in a cave in China's Yunnan province.
The World Health Organization says the investigation is not about finding fault with anyone, but about trying to understand how the coronavirus entered the human body. At the same time, efforts will be made to eradicate the virus. The agency said that while efforts are being made to gather information on the epidemic, data on new SARS-Kavid viruses could be collected in the future.
Shortly after the outbreak of coronavirus in China over the past year, it has spread to many countries around the world. More than 20 million people have died so far. The economies of many countries have been destroyed due to the lockdown. And former US President Donald Trump has done politics with it. He blamed China for the virus. Meanwhile, China's communist government has repeatedly rejected Trump's claims, saying the virus could come from outside China.
