I promote my posts fairly frequently except for the period where PROMOTE disappeared for awhile. I'll tell you I barely spend anything. I usually only spend $0.001 to $0.01 because, I am not a wealthy guy and I don't have a lot of money. So while I do promote, I don't spend the bulk of my earnings on it. I try to hold a little SBD in reserve for promotions.

I have never really noticed a payout or voting difference from it, I just did it because even my small amount I was sending stuff to NULL.

There was a period not long ago where the feature vanished for awhile.
