If you'd like to blame someone for bringing the durian to mass popularity, you can blame the Italian and Portuguese merchants that landed here in old Malaya, back in the 1400s. We might never knew the ... who first cracked it open.

I wanted to put in Aussie slang which is the opposite of "cobber" in that blank '...' space. Any insight?

Ah, that sounds suitable. It must've been a gigantic knob jockey to have discovered, ate, and then spread the good love of durians around. Fucking awful. Thankfully, Covid has made it ever harder to harvest, and thus consume durians. It might be the only good thing that I can praise the plague for.
