Wednesday Walk

in #wednesdaywalk7 years ago (edited)

I would LOVE to see what your neighborhood looks like! What sights do you see if you go out your door on a short 5 minute walk? That is the challenge that @tattoodjay has set for us with his #Wednesdaywalk.

My rural neighborhood is pretty well established, with many of the neighbors living in the same houses for 20 years. Except for the old house across the road from me. The plan is for it to be torn down and condos built there some day, but for now it is a rental property . New renters just moved in two weeks ago and they have become the talk of the neighborhood already.

I was so sad when I went out on my morning walk to see that the beautiful Burning bush at the end of their driveway had been chopped to the ground.

only a stump left today

But, not much traffic in my neighborhood, and I'm off to see what I can find to take pictures of this morning!

One of my neighbors celebrated her 80th birthday this week and her kids were here from Minnesota, Colorado and Arizona and she stopped me as I was going past to meet everyone. It turned out to be a longer and more social walk than I had anticipated.

But back to the photos! Irises seem to be blooming in everyone's yard this week. It is a good flower to grow in the woods because the deer don't eat it.

This pair of mallards joined me on my walk for a few minutes.

This hill is much more steep than it appears in this photo and at the top of the climb is this farm field that was recently planted with soy beans.

This bridal wreath bush is blooming beautifully.

And the flowers on the blackberry bushes promise an abundance of berries this year

So that's my 5 minute walk/scooter ride! And now I'm home again. *Note the closed garage door. If I leave it open for even 5 minutes I have a garage full of chipmunks!

Thanks for joining me on my walk!

Looks like a nice day and you got some exercise and saw a lot of flowers in bloom! Your rural neighborhood looks very inviting! Thanks for taking us along! My 5 minute walk from my house in my suburban neighborhood, might get me to the creek in our neighborhood. Maybe I will find out. :)

Thanks so much for walking with me,! I would love to see your creek!

My dear Melinda all the pictures looks so good, your neighborhood looks amazing! I hope you have a wonderful day ♥

That's a good work Wednesday can I join too?

Oh yes! I would love to go on a walk with you!

I will write a post too soon MA

Check out my last post I just did it

What a delightful walk you took us along with you on

What a shame the bush was cut down, I would kind of hope the condos never happenned it will change the feel of the neighborhood and it seems such a beautifuland friendly neighborhood

Thanks! Change is inevitable, I guess. It's not having the condos or new neighbors that worry me as much as all the construction noise and traffic.

Sadly it is, we have lots of new buildings going u here also, its when the noise disturbs the sound sof nature that it bother sme the most to be honest

Oh, my dear, you live in a king of heaven. So peaceful and beautiful! And the Spring adding its glamour to the paths... Loved it! Big hug, sweetie!

Thanks! It is a pretty part of the world!

Indeed, lucky lovely girl!

Another interesting walk around your neighbourhood @melinda010100.

This is another post I'd like to do when I can find some time.

What is it the chipmunks are after in your garage. Food?

My daughter has them all named and so tame that she can let them. They have no fear and I think they just want her to come out and play! And of course they would love a few sunflower seeds, too! We have a running joke where she invites them in the house, saying 'wanna come in? My mommy says it's OK!' And I tell them it is not OK!

I'm with you on that one @melinda010100. I wouldn't want chipmunks in my house no matter how cute they looked.

On a completely different note . . . if I post a flower shadows blog in about 14 hours, i.e. first thing in the morning my time will it still be in time for the contest do you think?

a stuper walk you took us on :D woohoo what a set of fab flowers you have :D loove the slowwalker too ha ah

Glad you liked it! It is a fun challenge!

I see this posts a LOT, looks really fab😀💗🐲🐉 so liked your take on it 💗💗

Awwww... I'm jealous with all the flowers you have... Love the irises! And the ducks.... excuse me - mallards... and of course the trees..... 😊 A pity about the Burning bush though... Maybe I should find the time to do one of these walks too, one day

I would love to see your neighborhood! Please do a walk. I think it is a fantastic way to know each other better and feel like I have been to your house!

I thoroughly enjoyed walking around your neighbourhood this morning @melinda010100 It is very picturesque and those irises are stunning. I'm not sure if I have seen the bridal wreath bush flowers before but it is good to know what they are called and they too, are gorgeous in full bloom. Unfortunately I will not have time to my do my Wednesday walk this week but hope to return next week. have a wonderful day/evening my friend. (U & R)

I'll look forward to walking with you next week, Trudee! Thanks for resteeming our walk together! Bridal Wreath bushes were a popular planting...every old house in the Midwestern part of the US has one...or 6!

My pleasure Melinda. It's great to get a sense of where people live especially as we just can't pop in for a quick visit and a cuppa as much as we'd like to. So this is the next best thing.

I agree! It makes me feel like I know my friends even better!

Yes.....that's exactly how I feel too Melinda. Such are the benefits of the internet! (:

I can see why you said you didn't need a/c that much - you really are shady there. Looks very warm and cottagy where you life.

I would hate to see a burning bush chopped down too!! They are one of my favorite bushes.

The photos of the bridal wreath are beautiful. They have such a delicate polka dot-looking flower.

I was out and about today today.....I'll have to remember this for next week. I visited an old graveyard but all of my photos were burry - have to check the settings, I have no idea what I did.

I'm just sick about that lovely bush! I have enjoyed it every autumn for 17 years, and if these renters are anything like the previous renters, they will be out in less than a year. The last ones were thrown out after 3 months. Maybe bad renters are just s way for me to be more accepting of new condos being built there!

Sorry about your cemetery pictures. DO try again. I would love to see them! And a a Wednesday walk, too!

Some renters don't take care of where they live....such a shame. We rented houses for years before we purchased and we made it cozy as if it were our own. New condos will mean more renters too unless their strata prevents rentals. Some do.

I'll try again.....I want to go back to the cemetery too bc it was so old.

Because these will be on/near the river I would expect them to be higher end, and probably not rentals. There has been talk of them being built for 10 years and it still hasn't happened, so I'm not too worried!
