You could have taken ORS.
What is ORS?
Oral rehydration therapy also known as salt sugar solution.
It's a special combination of dry salts that is mixed with safe water.
Mostly used to treat dehydration caused by diarrhea, a common illness in travellers.
I know, I never use it because it tastes disgusting

Then you can try the home made oral rehydration salts.
Add 6 teaspoons of sugar.
Half level teaspoon of salt in one litre of a clean water.
Taken in about 200ml cup of water each, a total of 5-6 cupfuls I think.
