Let’s start off by explaining what are multi-currency wallets and why and how I’ve made the list below for you. Initially multi-currency wallet allows you to hold many crypto currencies in one software or hardware wallet. These are usually light wallets which remove the need to download full blockchain of data for every transaction which makes them perfect for people that want to have their crypto holdings all in one place.
We can say that multi-currency wallets are online wallets such as the ones that exchanges have such as binance, coinbase and others. But because with online wallets we don’t own our private keys which means we trust a third party with our money, same as with banks I have not included these in my list. What is included are wallets that let you in the position of your private keys, which is essentially what you should strive for while choosing a good wallet. Although there are still concerns if for instance the device where you have that wallet gets hacked, or malware gets injected the rates for that to happen are far lower than the exchange gets hacked. Because exchanges are often known to have much more cryptocurrency they are often a target to bad guys.
Some of these wallets have built in external exchanges to make it easier for users. They also earn some percentage from the trade in order to be able to sustain their servers and offer free service to anybody who wants to use these wallets.
List is the following:
Coinomi
Devices Supported: Desktop , Android , IOS
Supported Asset List: https://www.coinomi.com/en/assets/
Coinomi is one of the oldest mlti-coin wallets out there, lunched in 2014 with open-source code. It has since then closed it’s code because there were a lot of people creating fake apps and pretending to be coinomi and stealing funds from its users. But because of how long it is in existence we can confidently say it is one of the best out there. With coinomi you are in control over everything from fees to privacy of your coins with HD feature etc.
Jaxx
Devices Supported: Desktop , Android , IOS , Chrome Extension
Supported Asset List: https://support.decentral.ca/hc/en-us/articles/218373867-Which-digital-tokens-does-Jaxx-support-
Jaxx had some bad press before but that should not stop you from trying this wallet out. It still has huge user base and supporters such as Charlie Shrem, known name within cryptocurrency community. It has really simple and nice looking UI that is the same across any device you are using the wallet from making it really simple. It has built in 3rd party exchange for fast swapping the coins.
Exodus
Devices Supported: Desktop , IOS is planned
Supported Asset List: https://www.exodus.io/#showAll
Yet another popular choice among people. Exodus was one of the first wallets to implement the clean design and ease of use for Desktop computer which gained them trust among users. Now we can say it is still one of the mostly used wallets out there. They support 3rd party exchange and many cryptocurrencies to choose from, not everything is available for the end user but that is made like that so you think less about other stuff.
AtomicWallet
Devices Supported: Desktop , Android
Supported Asset List: https://atomicwallet.io/assets
What AtomicWallet is proud of is the support for Atomic Swaps. What are Atomic Swaps? They essentially allow people to trade between different cryptocurrencies without the need for middleman. Not all cryptocurrencies have this capabilities but for once that do you can easily use this to swap between 2 cryptocurrencies, no need to use 3rd part. As it goes for other coins and tokens that they support which don’t have Atomic Swap capabilities they have build in 3rd party exchanges integrated within the wallet for ease of use to the user.
Guarda
Devices Supported: Desktop , Mobile – Android/IOS , Chrome Extension, Web Wallet
Supported Asset List: https://guarda.co/supported-cryptocurrencies
Guarda wallet was officially lunched back in 2017 as an Ethereum wallet with support for ERC20 tokens, it has since then added support for many other cryptocurrencies. Every open-source code that has been released from guarda can be found on their github page here at: https://github.com/guardaco
Hardware wallets
Also this could not be written without mentioning the hardware wallets – they are thought to be the most safest because your keys are only stored on an external device that you posses and they come from the following brands:
