A turned around Turkey Day.

This is how family Buttcoins found themselves unable to Have a ThanksGiving on the actual Thanksgiving Day. The real ThanksGiving Day is always the 4th Thursday of November. But we will be traveling on this Thursday through Ioannina, Greece...on our way to Athens. @thebombkids would be bummed if we didnt do our yearly Feast!
Our Family generally always creates a feast at Thanksgiving. We used to have thanksgiving at our Hotel Del Lago in Guatemala. Here is an old thanksgiving vid from some years back.

Here On Corfu Island in Greece, we have rented a home for 1 month. We live currently in Agios Nikolaos, a small village in south Corfu Island. We live near many olive farms, and its olive season. We live on the second floor, our house can see all the way down to the ocean and that right in front of us is a olive oil mill.
So all the olive farmers around this region come here to our front yard deliver there olive harvest to be pressed! Really lucky to be living here in the season and getting to see it all get made. The father of the family is called Spiros, he also has olive fields, he brought a fresh cold press on our first days in the house. He told us it was liquid gold and it was too good to cook with. He recommended salads and bread dipping.
He said 'we put olive oil on olives around here.' 🤣 so i tried it and it was great!
It has been really amazing living here and experiencing Corfu Island during what is considered the 'off season'. My wife and i took many sunset walks to the beach during this month. Sometimes the kids came, sometimes not, towards the end Percy would be running circles around us as we walked to the beach, he was training for a big race at the end of the month.
Check out some of my favorite sunsets during our time in Corfu.
As we wrapped up our month here and we realized we would not be here in our apartment on Thanksgiving Day, we decided... lets do it 1 week early and invite the family up to enjoy our feasting tradition.
A plan was hatched. So next we had to find all the ingredients for an essential Thanksgiving feast. Here is my short list.
- Turkey
2. Stuffing
3. Mashed Potatoes
4. Turkey Gravey
5. Cranberry Sauce
6. Candied Yams
7. Scalloped Onions
8. Corn on the cob
9. Deviled Eggs
10. Pumpkin Pie
Here was our spread, it wasn't all the normal things i mentioned above, but we did our best.
We divided and conquered. Each family member was lead on a few specific items. Amari was on the candied yams....
Dad and Amari tag teamed the cranberry sauce. We had to make it from scratch. We rehydrated cranberries, boiling them with cane sugar for several hours slowly until thick. I will jump ahead and say the cranberry sauce was my favorite, and we made a lot and so there was leftovers for days!
Of course there was the Turkey. Now for some who grew up having traditional thanksgivings, what i will now say, may seem unacceptable, but i will say its a million times easier to just part the turkey before cooking. Its way easier to cook it evenly and keep it juicy in less time while needing less oven space or time. Its simply a no brainer if you need an effective Thanksgiving but less picture perfect. Here is our parted turkey layout.
freshly parted, and now for some seasoning
Percy was on mashed potatoes. Lots and lots of cut potatoes were needed.
Potatoes boiled and ready for mashing, and you can see the base of moms cheese sauce there.
We all helped making deviled eggs. Deviled eggs are a thankgiving tradition with my family. I dont think all families have deviled eggs at thanksgiving. But it was a Grandma Dot special and no 4th Thursday in November would be the same without homemade Deviled Eggs, yum yum.
Here the spread starts to form, there in the back we have a broccoli and cheese next to a homemade stuffing, our moist turkey bake, deviled eggs and the cranberry sauce.
Here we all take our plates to the table to fill our bellies until slightly uncomfortable.
How nice is to share good food with good people. We filled our bellies until we could fill no more. The Family was so sweet with us all month. Taking us to their horse farm and showing us around the area.
We really felt blessed and were truly thankful to share a big meal together to and give appreciation through breaking bread💖
Here is what the fully loaded plate looks like from above.
It may seem strange to say, but the best part of Thanksgiving is the days and days of leftovers.
There was a sweet dog called nugget who often joined us on walks, we fed her some of the turkey bones after we made turkey bone stew and the bones were nice and soft. She was a lovely dog and she loved her turkey bone treat.
Thanks for joining family Buttcoins as we spend time in Greece and make our own rules around Thanksgiving. Whats your favorite reason to feast? Do you have a food that reminds you of home no matter where you eat it? Bye for Now Hive!
