VYB Announcements: Rewards Pool, Governance, Project Fund
This post will provide updates on a few important issues related to the Verify Your Brain tribe and the VYB token. In particular, this post will address the following:
- Upcoming changes to the VYB rewards-pool smart contract
- VYB tribe governance
- VYB project fund
Upcoming Changes to the VYB Rewards-Pool Smart Contract
The rewards-pool was started at 1/3 the full rate, with a 2-day voting period, so that various aspects of the rewards-pool smart contract and the www.vybrainium.com front-end could be tested and verified, and to limit the potential for any token-distribution problems similar to the Proof of Brain Storm.
As soon as it became clear that things were indeed working as intended, the rewards-pool rate was doubled (from 1/3 to 2/3), as was the voting window (from 2 days to 4 days).
During the first few days of the ramp-up period, some differences were identified between the ‘old’ way of distributing Hive-Engine token rewards (known as ‘ScotBot’) and the ‘new’ way, which is referred to as the ‘comments smart contract’ by the Hive-Engine devs (or as the ‘rewards-pool smart contract’ in the initial VYB white paper and herein). Here is a list of some of the known differences:
Exclusionary tags are functional with ScotBot, but not with the rewards-pool contract. (smart contract code has been revised to eliminate this difference; revised code is being tested)
Tribe-wide account muting requires posting-key authority with ScotBot, but requires active-key authority with the rewards-pool contract. (smart contract code has been revised to eliminate this difference; revised code is being tested)
Post-specific muting is functional with ScotBot, but not with the rewards-pool contract.
Token-specific vote multipliers are functional with ScotBot, but not with the rewards-pool contract.
‘Taxing’ posts that do not use the token’s official front-end is possible with ScotBot, but not with the rewards-pool contract.
[2]
The exclusionary-tag difference was deemed important enough to warrant an immediate revision of the ‘rewards-pool smart contract’ code, and @eonwarped completed that code revision expeditiously (on 12/23/21). However, that code revision is still being tested. As soon as that testing is complete and the revised smart-contract code goes live, we will update the VYB rewards-pool smart contract configuration as follows:
- Increase the rewards-pool rate from its current 2/3 rate (6 VYB every 2 minutes) to its full rate (9 VYB every 2 minutes, or 6,480 VYB per day). VYB will maintain this rate through February 2025, at which time it will be reduced by 50%, commensurate with POB’s 50% rate reduction (scheduled to occur on POB’s 4th birthday).
- Increase the voting window from 4 days to 7 days.
- Add the following inclusionary tags (in addition to vyb & verifyyourbrain):
- pob
- proofofbrain
- hive-150329 (the Proof of Brain 'community' tag)
- Add the following exclusionary tags and/or exclusionary apps:
- no-vyb, novyb
- these tags are for accountholders who want to self-vote and still want to post to the Proof of Brain tribe
- this is because self-voting is prohibited on Verify Your Brain (doing so will result in post-level and/or account-level muting)
- whereas VYB tokens will be awarded to posts that use any of the Proof of Brain tags, the only way Hive accountholders can self-vote on Proof of Brain and not get muted from Verify Your Brain is to include one of the Proof of Brain tags AND include either the #novyb or #no-vyb tag
all generic-tribe tags except those associated with the Proof of Brain and Verify Your Brain tribes- UPDATE: this 'feature' will not be implemented right away; an automated comment-bot needs to be configured to clearly explain to folks who use multiple generic-tribe tags why they are not receiving VYB rewards. Once the bot is operational, we will let it operate for a couple weeks warning folks about the pending changes before the changes are actually instituted. Also, additional time and attention is needed to more clearly define what constitutes a 'general purpose' or generic tribe.
this is being done to cut down on tag spam and to force Hive accountholders to choose which generic tribe they want to engage withall Hivers are welcome to post original content via the Proof of Brain & Verify Your Brain tribes; however, they must choose between exclusively earning POB & VYB versus all the other generic-tribe tokens ‘out there’we hereby request @proofofbrainio consider adding all generic-tribe tags (other than Verify Your Brain & Proof of Brain) to the POB exclusionary tag list as well
- dbuzz, hive-193084 (i.e. buzzes made via D.Buzz)
- match Proof of Brain’s current exclusionary tags, which include
- actifit
- steemhunt
- appics
- dlike
- share2steem
- additional tags that tend to garner low-effort or highly-repetitive / low-information posts
- no-vyb, novyb

VYB Tribe Governance
As was stated in the initial VYB white paper, @trostparadox, @scholaris, and @calumam (hereinafter referred to as the VYB Management Team, or VMT) have been actively working together as a consensus-focused team to launch the Verify Your Brain tribe and to make it as successful as possible. All three VMT members espouse the principles of decentralization and transparency and will favor decisions and actions that adhere to and promote those principles.
As such, all major decisions made by the VMT thus far have been with full consensus. All major future decisions will ideally be made with full consensus; in the rare likelihood that consensus cannot be achieved and a decision is required despite the lack of consensus, that fact will be transparently disclosed and the nature of the disagreement explained.
In addition to adhering to consensus-based decision-making, the VMT desires to actively solicit feedback from the community. As such, a VYB Stewardship Board (VSB) is being appointed. The following criteria are being used to establish eligibility for membership on the VSB:
- Received VYB either via the airdrop or via active engagement in one of the numerous @vyb.earn contests,
- Posted (or commented) at least once using the official Verify Your Brain front-end (www.vybrainium.com) (as of January 10, 2022), and
- Did not sell any VYB tokens (as of January 10, 2022).
The above criteria resulted in 50 accountholders who qualify for membership on the VSB. A separate announcement listing the eligible accountholders and detailing VSB membership procedures will be posted soon.
Although the VSB will serve in an advisory capacity, there will be one area in which the VSB will have sole decision-making authority -- the VYB Project Fund (see below).
In addition, the VYB Anti-Abuse Team will rely upon the VSB's guidance for any 'gray areas' that may arise with respect to account-level muting.

VYB Project Fund
The official launch date for VYB (December 18, 2021), was chosen to coincide with the point in time wherein the total number of POB tokens ever issued would exactly equal the total number of VYB tokens being pre-issued (2,042,042). Those 2,042,042 VYB tokens were pre-issued as follows:
- 1,000,000 VYB to airdrop recipients
- 1,000,000 VYB available to be claimed via the POB-for-VYB claim procedure
- 42,042 VYB to be earned by participants in the various @vyb.earn contests
However, when the decision was made to slowly ramp-up the rewards-pool distribution rate (as described above), this resulted in fewer VYB tokens being issued each day, relative to the number of POB tokens being issued. As such, more POB tokens than VYB tokens have been issued to-date. That differential is currently in excess of 80,000 tokens.
As soon as the VYB rewards-pool distribution is adjusted to its ‘full’ rate (which will occur as soon as the exclusionary-tag capability is fully tested and enabled, as mentioned above), enough VYB tokens will be issued to @vyb.fund to make up for the differential between total POB tokens issued and total VYB tokens issued.
The dispensation of those tokens will be at the sole discretion of the VSB. A separate post will be made to more fully explain the VYB Project Fund and its proposal submission and ratification procedures.

Great news! I'm happy that more and more VYB is taking space and consolidating around here, and I agree with all the changes and news. This tag issue is very important, and I hope it doesn't go unnoticed by some colleagues who use the tag and may end up voting for another tribe! A great topic to address and even reinforce!
And I am happy to see that I meet the requirements to enter as a candidate for the VYB board, I already reinforce that I am interested in this, although I will need to be aware of all the obligations and needs. Anyway, the curatorship has already made me very happy, hehe.
I'm a little confused. As English is not my native language, I may have misunderstood some translations.
My question is regarding the tags that can be used.
Will there be a punishment or something if we use other tags? In fact some I use to fill the 10, as is the case of: broadhive, archon and ash.
However, there are others that I use according to the theme, for example: leofinance. When I publish something related to finance, I always put it on their front-end and use the tags: pob and vyb. Because it's a community that I also frequent and I would like this content in it.
Will I be penalized for this?
While I wait for the answer I will try to read it a few more times and understand better.
My hope would be that all general-purpose tribes follow suit and exclude all general-purpose tribe tags but their own, thus creating competition between all the general-purpose tribes.
Hive-Engine tribes and tokens are by default very centralized, as adeptly pointed out some months ago by @themarkymark. Centralization in and of itself is not bad, as long as there is healthy competition. Although decentralization is a noble goal and aspiration, at present we seek a highly-competitive environment within which to exist. If anyone and everyone can simply fork a general-purpose tribe and token but add nothing new, then we simply end up with a senseless quagmire of general-purpose tribes everywhere you turn.
As @themarkymark candidly responded to a question I asked during his recent AMA:
Marky's point is well-stated and well taken. Proof of Brain & Verify Your Brain represent a unique Layer 2 experiment (imho). With that said, we don't simply want everyone and his brother just adding the #vyb tag to every post, just to grab some extra rewards.
Instead, we want Verify Your Brain (& Proof of Brain) to be the go-to Layer 2 general-purpose tribe. So, for starters, we are intentionally creating a competitive environment where it is (at first, anyways) POB & VYB versus all the other general-purpose tribes. In other words, we are creating an environment where either we are adding something more than 'just more rewards' or we get (rightfully) ignored. If all general-purpose tribes follow suit, then each must add some unique value or fall to the wayside. This is the way it should be.
Everyone participates on the Layer 1 general-purpose 'tribe' that is Hive. Innovation comes from competition. We are looking to shift the paradigm for general-purpose tribes away from 'just another Layer 2 general-purpose tribe' to a place where folks can engage and build together something that is bigger than themselves -- and where they are forced to either innovate and grow or settle for the status quo and whither away.
This is not meant to be punitive, although I can see how some might interpret it that way. We are creating something new here. No one is forced to use the #vyb tag. However, those who choose to use the #vyb tag will need to abstain from using any other general-purpose tribe's tag(s) if they want to receive VYB tokens.
Although there has been some discussion about reducing the VYB rewards associated with posts that use niche tags such as leofinance, there are no overt plans to do that and such action would not be taken unless there was overwhelming support within the VYB Stewardship Board to do something like that. And, FWIW, neither ScotBot nor the rewards-pool smart contract currently support anything like that.
Outside of Lasse, Palnet, Neoxian, what other tribes are you considering "general"?
I believe Broadhive, Ash, Archon and Cent are a general tribe
So if i understand, no problem if i keep using Leo, Vyb and Pob, right?
Correct.
That's a good question.
I (personally) would say any that do not actively moderate their tag use would probably qualify (regardless of what they openly state -- in other words, actions speak louder than words).
However, another reasonable criterion would be any that do not clearly state the type of content they do allow. If they don't say and simply leave it open to anyone's and everyone's interpretation, then for all intents and purposes, they are general.
I am definitely open to other suggestions, though (as I am sure @calumam and @scholaris are, as well).
Of course. Decentralization doesn't work with closed minds.
I know @scholaris has requested feedback from the community already on his initial draft moderation proposal for VYB (@notconvinced also brought his brain to the table with regards to this, demonstrating the power of decentralization at work) and I've reached out personally in the comments on the VYB Curation Project announcement post and within the post itself. I hope these recent instances can be examples of our desire to be transparent and open to criticism, feedback and additional support.
I'm looking forward to the building to come in the future, courtesy of the VYB Project Fund led by the brains on the VYB Stewardship Board.
I liked the ideia, about general tribes.
Thank you for the detailed update. Also happy to see solid & familiar names on the VYB Management team. Due to my posts being published as podcast versions straight to the Aureal community, I'm always glad to get updates as to what's happening in VYB. Didn't know that Palnet was considered a general tag; good to get that out of the way too.
Are you guys working on listing VYB as a community similar to Proof of Brain, LeoFinance etc.? I'd love to add it to my community subscription list.
We didn't create an actual Hive community for Verify Your Brain because we will be maxed out with the following 5 tribe tags: vyb, verifyyourbrain, pob, proofofbrain, hive-150329 (the Proof of Brain community tag).
If we created a Hive community, we would have needed to eliminate one of the other tags. The 5-tag limit is a Hive-Engine limitation. If H-E increases the limit to 6 then maybe we can create a VYB community.
OK. I understand. Thank you so much for the clarification.
Thanks for the update. From what I have seen, I haven't received any rewards from VYB for my VYB tagged posts.. Am I missing something? How do I monitor this or claim them? I don't see them as claimable in Hive Engine. Thanks
Hi @ura-soul. The rewards don't show up on Hive Engine to claim as they are auto-staked to your account at payout.
Here is the link to your transfer page on the https://www.vybrainium.com front-end: https://www.vybrainium.com/@ura-soul/transfers
I hope this helps!
Aha, ok, thanks for explaining :)
Greetings ! Good initiative, but I wanted to ask a question, to enter the Vyb platform, it is done with the same credentials of Hive?
Yep, just go to https://www.vybrainium.com/@wilfredocav and use keychain 👍
Thanks !
These are all fantastic developments and I think it will benefit the project but what is done to bring new and more people into the block chain?
What is the new user creation numbers like and what are plans to ramp up recruitment and retention? Thats what will make the project.
As I'm sure you are aware, this is a problem that is still followed by uncertainty and confusion. We're going to address this in our own style and see what we can do within the VYB Tribe to improve this, although we're more concerned about the essential systems that have to be in place for us to maintain some level of stability within the tribe in the present and future.
We are open to suggestions and will avidly support people in the community who share their ideas/solutions/thoughts and feelings.
Is there data out there that shows us the statistics and retention rates for onboarding within other tribes?
(fore-shadowing: I will personally look at these statistics with a pinch of salt as there will always be debate surrounding the value within each person. Still, the numbers would be interesting to look at and it would be valuable to compare the methodologies used on Layer 1 (& their communities), Layer 2 (& their tribes), and external platforms to Hive.
Yes speak to @arcange he publishes data on account creation and tribes.
This post has the kinda of class (I'd say VYB but haw haw) that makes a Dawg spontaneously pee in the middle of town! Ooops, not oops.
Great stuff. Great chessplay.
I have not sold any VYB tokens (as of January 10, 2022) that I got, so does that qualify me ? May be I need to get more involved. Tried to log in now to the front end with hivesigner, but it just dies after hivesigner redirects. Is it not working or still being built up ?
If you never published a post or comment using the VYB front-end, then you will not be invited to join the VYB Stewardship Board.
The board may be expanded sometime in the future. It is a 'stewardship' board. That means membership is geared toward those who are committed to the tribe, its future, and its ideals. We had to identify some initial criteria that would signal that kind of commitment. In the future, we hope to develop better 'stewardship' metrics. In fact, @calumam and I would like to eventually develop a 'Proof of Stewardship' (PoSt) governance model that can be emulated by other tribes. We are a ways off from being able to do that, though.
I'm not sure what specific problem you might be having. I was able to login to www.vybrainium.com with HiveSigner (using Brave browser). It does require the active-key to do that, though.
Personally, I recommend using HiveKeychain. I find it easier to use and more secure.
So I will have to wait ? or I can publish now onwards and I will be given a chance ? In fact, I am half way writing my first post there doing a direct log in. The redirect from Hivesigner just freezes on Firefox.
For a chance to join the VYB Stewardship Board (VSB), yes.
There will be no direct benefit to members of the VSB. They will simply be allowed to 'vote' on various questions related to how the community is to be organized.
There is no requirement that you use the www.vybrainium.com front-end. So don't worry about it if it's too hard. (I would still suggest you try Hive Keychain, though.)
Some tribes penalize people who do not post from their front-end. VYB does not do that.
When trying to establish the VYB Stewardship Board (VSB), we wanted a straightforward metric that demonstrated an individual's potential commitment to the tribe. Using the VYB front-end meant they were doing more than just adding the #vyb tag to their posts. That demonstrated a willingness to 'check out' the tribe in more detail.
At the current time, the front-end offers very few advantages over more advanced front-ends, like PeakD. (In fact, I am currently using PeakD for this reply -- I find it easier to use and I like its features.)
If and when we expand the VSB, we will likely be looking at other metrics.
I often use "archon", "cent", "palnet" and "neoxian" tags in my content depending on context.
So should I continue using them or exclude them while using vyb tag?
Also is vyb compatible with leofinance? can we use vyb in finance related content?
We will post an announcement from @vyb.vyb identifying what tags will be excluded (and they may change from time to time -- if they change we will update the post or make an additional post).
Also, at some point I hope to have a bot that will leave comments whenever someone uses one of the VYB tags but also uses one of the excluded tags, so that they will know specifically why their post isn't receiving VYB tokens. We don't want it to be a mystery. We just want those who choose VYB to be committed to VYB (or at least more committed to VYB than to any other generic tribe).
You can always check the VYB configuration settings by going here. I don't know what the 'name' of the exclusionary tag field will be, probably something like "exclude_tags" (that is the name that is used for ScotBot).
Yes.
Yes.
Should I be able to claim extra VYB according to my POB balance on December 18th? And how?
Hi @pele23. The final calculations for the VYB airdrop were shared in this post on the 8th of December.
This method of receiving VYB, exchanging liquid POB for VYB through the direct exchange method stated in the initial whitepaper, and winning VYB through @vyb.earn were the only ways to earn VYB prior to the front-end being released on the 19th of December.
I've sent you over a delegation from my own stake in the amount of 2012.64 (until the 31st of January 2022) to help you get rolling. I had planned to send you staked VYB during #the12daysofvyb, I like your honest and genuine content style, but someone else must have swooped in and caught my eye afterward.
Glad I managed to find another opportunity although this way does require more curation to get the benefit.
Spread it around 👍
Thank you very much for this opportunity!
Without much long discussions and argumentation, read my today's post. Which will put some light on my point on those general tag-spaming "authors"
https://www.vybrainium.com/vyb/@onealfa/my-msg-to-token-milkers
This post makes a lot of sense! and yes...a post clarifying all the general exclusionary tags would be very useful.
We are involved in a grand experiment here. Very few things are set in stone. If we try something and it doesn't work as intended or if it creates the wrong incentives, then we can and will make adjustments.
We are still waiting on the H-E rewards-pool smart contract revisions to go live before we update the configuration parameters (e.g. inflation rate, voting window, excluded tags, etc.).
With that said, I don't think it would be wise to institute exclusionary tags for other generic tribes unless and until we have the ability to clearly communicate to folks who use those tags why they are not receiving VYB rewards. That will take some coding (to create a comment bot to check for those conditions and automatically alert people).
The above announcement will be updated to reflect this reality.
This sounds very sensible @trostparadox. From what I have seen, Vyb has the potential to be a very good community and to have a tribe token worth holding. From the published documentation there are some interesting and positive differences to the POB tribe setup albeit that the two tribes are complementary. I would encourage people to go and read the white papers and the launch articles, to follow the @vyb.vyb account for updates and adjustments, and then engage constructively with the Vyb Management Team. Taking the time now to ensure that the right messages go out into the community is definitely the way to go. Personally, I think the VMT has been clear all along that this is a bedding-in phase, subject to adjustment. I trust people will bear with the process and keep asking questions and have constructive conversations with the VMT during this process and after it concludes as the VYB management Team are very engaging and setting up a brand new tribe that seeks to improve upon previous general content communities, can't be easy. There must be a heck of a lot of work involved in the background to bring such projects to fruition. A labour of love indeed! !PIZZA !ALIVE
Hope that has been clear.
Yes, and yes!
You are correct. We decided, "Why just complain when we can buidl and test some potential solutions?"
A lot of work yet to be done, as well. Getting things operating smoothly and in a stable fashion is top priority, especially when it comes to moderation (i.e. anti-abuse procedures).
@trostparadox! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @samsmith1971. (2/10)
The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.
Great development boss and I guess it will also lead to bringing more people into the blog chain as well
where can I delegate my VYB to?
You had me at no down voting,
Great planning!
Now I'm wondering if I sold any Vyb or not...I'm not sure if I did...it'll be good to see the list!

@bobthebuilder2, You need more $LOLZ to use this command. The minimum requirement is 16.0 LOLZ.
You can get more $LOLZ on HE.
It used to be 8 lolz... now I guess I need more... bummer !luv should work

You can now send $PIZZA tips in Discord via tip.cc!
Even my puppy dog now has vyb and pob staked!!!
Thank you everyone for all of your hard work and absolutely love this community..
Hopefully others will find as much value in this community is we all do.
Thank you very much and here is to another couple of years of success on the blockchain!
