We currently live in a world filled with doomsday preppers, and the like, building underground bunkers and hoarding nonperishables and ammunition in an attempt at survival should the world plummet into utter chaos. There are many ways that the world could end as we know it, however knowing when or how is beyond our grasps. We do know that in approximately 3 billion years, our sun will become a red giant and end up swallowing the planet. However, if we last 3 billion years, I personally believe we will have the technology to survive that event.
The final end step would be the dark era of the universe. With the universe constantly expanding, eventually everything in the universe will be too far apart to create new things and even supermassive black holes would dissipate over time.
