RE: Vocab-ability Prefix–293 (meg__, max__, maj__ = big, great) – A More Powerful Vocabulary (earn UpVotes with “Vocab Practice” exercise)

MY VOCAB PRACTICE

  1. Sex Pistols is the best band and maximum exponent of the punk genre in England.

  2. When we used ms-dos nobody dreamed of the existence of 1 Megabyte.

  3. From before reaching his majority, he already had silver hair.

Sort:

Good work!

The Pistols were awesome, and remain in the punk / rock pantheon. So were The Clash and dozens of other bands from that time.

Oh, now I'm getting nostalgic ...

p.s. Since you know about both the Pistols and MS-DOS, I assume you're about my age. Still young, but starting to look and feel a bit old and peaceful.

Rock on!!!!

I was convinced that you would like that prayer because I know you love punk rock.
Regarding the ms-dos, those of us who live that experience are more aware of the advances that computing has made. This generation of millennials will never understand what a diskette is and even a tape cassette.

Ya, LPs, cassettes, and, going back another decade, 8-track tapes!! Remember them?

Nor will the millennials ever understand what it was like to work on a simple word processor. Or, a few decades previously, a typewriter!!

I remember when my university installed a few clunky computers, way up on the 4th floor of the library. My Vietnamese-American friend told me about them, all excited and optimistic. I shrugged, and continued to type my essays on my trusty typewriter.

She went on to establish a computer services company, and she eventually made shitloads of money maintaining computers and intranets for various large corporations and banks.

Me, I got a jobs as an English teacher and as an editor and writer. And a freelance writer on Steemit!! :-)

I started with "wordstar". You had to memorize a series of commands just to set the margins or for a word in italics.

Recently I took out some cassettes with the intention of having an old recording of mine. When my 14-year-old daughter saw me the cassettes in my hand she asked me: what is that daddy? I could not believe it, I thought I was kidding. But then I came to my senses and I understood that she had never had the opportunity to know what it was. So I had to give him a little explanation and demonstration. You know what? she got bored with my explanation.

I shrugged, and continued to type my essays on my trusty typewriter.

I'm going to look for my old machine and I'm going to take a trip to the past. I'm sure I'll miss the "backspace".

PS: dear friend, I have always thought that your initiative with "MY VOCAB PRACTICE" is simply great. I would like other Venezuelan friends of mine to do these practices.
Would it bother you if I made a small post on my blog inviting your practices?
If you think in another way that I could promote this, let me know please.

Please, make a post inviting others to come to my Vocab-ability posts. There are just under 100 posts remaining, so there's still plenty to learn.

And once I finish this ~400 post series, I'm thinking or re-running the entire series, with a slightly revised format. Why not...?

Thanks for taking part actively. Cheers!

Thank you Friend.
