Virginia Beach is an independent city located on the southeastern coast of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the most popular city in Virginia. A major portion of the city drains to the Chesapeake Bay by way of the Lynnhaven River and its tributaries.

There are signs all along the resort area just to remind an individual to keep those four-lettered words zipped up. Is it enforceable? Both yes and no. Despite this, you will only be charged if you speak these words in public creating a nuisance. Over 500,000 visitors are attracted every year to the beach for The popular Neptune Festival. And it is listed consistently in top 100 festivals in the country. One should also not miss the North American Sand Sculpting Championship held here. This festival is a private non-profit organization producing over 40 events per year. It has an annual operating budget of over $2.1 million!!

Beaches Are Super Clean

No one likes their hamburgers having even a little sand in it. “The Largest Sandbox In Virginia” as locals call it and that too for a reason. Every morning, the beaches are raked and smoothed back to keep safe and pristine. It is fun to look out from your balcony and see the machines work. Hence difficult to resist calling out “Comb the Beach” from a very famous movie “Meatballs”.

Yes, the Military is Here!

There are several military bases in and around the metropolitan area of VA Beach. This includes the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Station Oceana, which is the largest employer in the city. The NAS Oceana and Training Support Center Hampton Roads are considered to be the largest of their kind in the world. In the wee hours of the morning, one can see men running up and down in the boardwalk.

The Virginia Beach is a hot spot for golf lovers. There are as many as 11 golf courses open to the public in the city and 36 military holes at NAS Oceana’s Aeropines Course. Hell’s Point Golf Club and Virginia Beach National are some of the most notable greens, which hosts the Virginia Beach Open every year in April.

Virginia Beach is a Hub For Volleyball

Virginia Beach is home to one of the largest volleyball followings around. Tidewater Volleyball Association and Volleyball Virginia and more hosted here offers competitive games for pros and amateurs. Professional and semi-professional tournaments in affiliation with the AVP Tour, EVP Tour, Pro Beach East and The Spalding Corona Wide Open are also held here at Virginia. And if that is too much for you, there’s always a volleyball net available on the beach for public play.
